I dont know if I should post this question here or in the SP1 area, new to the forum. My question is, my dad has an SP1 colt ar15. Is it possible to put the newer upper receivers on the older lower? The SP1 has the double threaded front pivot pin, this I know but is there a way to convert it to accept a different upper? Is this where the small pin, large pin stuff comes into play? My experience with these weapons are from the military and owning a couple of them but as far as specs. go, I'm at a loss. Im a big AK guy and just got my M4 Rock River a month ago.

Thanks. Thats what we were thinking. He wants to get a 7.62 AR rifle and we were toying around with the idea of getting a larger than 556 upper. We know the 762 wont fit on it but we were just wondering about a 6.8spc or something besides 556. I guess I could just get the 6.8 for my M4 and buy an ar10 style rifle.

Yes there are conversion pins that are not permanent and will allow to attach a standard upper. MidwayUSA and Brownells carry them.
That being said if you're looking for something larger there are plenty of choices all the way up to .50! 6.8 is the second most offered alternate caliber other than 5.56 7.62x39 is a close third 6.5 Grendel is another popular choice, and the new .300 Blackout is another 7.62 option (basically a renamed .300 Whisper). The nice thing about the Blackout is it uses 5.56 magazines and bolts - only the barrel is different. |
