| This will be myfirst ground up build. My first ar was stock DPMS panther with 10.5 in 1 in 7 and a blup tube, had hard crome bold and carier add some after market stuff but the rifle stated the same. Second was a double star parts kit, with 16" 1-9 twist, stamarded double star partsmil spec bolt and carier , with just a few after make cosmetic stuff. I have also have a rob arms xcr 18' 1-9" crom lined, stock rifle. With all these I run the cheapest ammo I ,can find from wolf, tula, golden bear, umc, xm183. etc. all in 55 gr 62 gr. I had no issues with key holing with any of these rifles with those loads, I ran some tap though the 10.5 at 72 gr and it was bad, it would start key holing at 25 meaters. With that said what i am building now is TAC2 lower mil speck, 10.5 yhm none cromed or fluted bearel, dpms up dpms cromed bold and carier, a.r.m.s #58m-cv forend, with lo pro gas block. and a yhm phantom supresor. My question is should i avoid the +55 gr rounds with this weapon, will the heaver rounds key hole and will they key hole in my can doing damage to it. Any impot would be great. And yse I know I cant spell. |
| Man, I have a headache after reading that, however, I think I know what you're asking. You should be fine up to 69gr with a 1/9 twist, but some have had success using heavier loads. You just have to remember that each & every barrel is an individual & you have to try different loads to know which your particular barrel likes. I may have the same barrel that you have & mine may not like an identical load that you're using. If you're using a 1/7 then you will have more variance in loads from 55gr on up.
