I bought a slighty used LMT 2 stage trigger off EE and was going to install it but as soon as I took it out of the packaging I noticed the J spring was not installed in the hammer.
So I did some research and it seems that it cannot be reinstalled without the possiblity of it falling out again. Is this true? I found this thread for some info http://forum.pafoa.org/gunsmithing-44/112648-serious-ar-trigger-issue-page-3.html Thanks in advance for the help. |

This spring is retained by peening the long leg through the hole in the hammer. Being spring steel, it is very hard to DIY. Most J springs have a lot of tension, this causes the hammer to grab on the pin which can make trigger pull vary. I would imagine the prior owner was looking to reduce J spring tension. If you have the spring, you could try making another out of music wire of the correct diameter, then peening it in place with a notched pin in the pivot hole. By doing this, you have minimal tension on the spring. |

i bought a piece if piano wire from ace and made my own.
it works fine. if i'd known it was impossible, i wouldn't have done it,. now i know it can't be done, i'll throw those 2 hammers away. at one time Colt offered the j hook (the part numbers no good anymore) as a seperate relacement part,so.... it was considered replaceable ...once. |

KNS pins should work if you decide not to try to replace the spring. So do you have to remove the J hook pin to install KNS pins? No, you do not have to remove that spring to install. They don't rely on the J spring to keep them in place. With standard pins, the J spring keeps the hammer pin in place. The hammer spring keeps the trigger pin in place. KNS pins have those bars on the sides, so they do not have grooves in the pins and do not rely on any springs to stay in place. |
