Title says it all.
I just discovered that my stock Stag has a broken trigger pin. I know this is a simple fix but is there any rhyme or reason to why this happened?

Not that common..... unless your running a 22lr conversion or other blowback stuff.

If your using a 22 conversion i'd suggest going ahead and buying KNS pins they are the "fix" never heard of anyone breaking them.

It seems like people who have issues with them breaking in blowback stuff often enough have a recurring problem untill they put in KNS pins.

I haven't seen a broken trigger pin but I have seen a couple of broken hammer pins before.....usually when they start doubling on me when you least expect it.

Hammer pin + .22lr upper = broken

It happened to me. Replaced it with a DPMS Anti-walk pin.

Same story here, in under 2000 rounds of .22LR.  Pin just sheared cleanly in half & discovered it after wondering why I suddenly started having issues.

I have a couple of spares if you can't find some with cheap shipping.  IM me if you want one.

I've only seen it happen to hammer pins when used with .22lr uppers.

Never seen or experienced this but my opinion is that anything can break at any time so I combat that with keeping p[lenty of spares around especially springs, pins and detents..high loss or possibly breakable parts.

My mistake I intended to say hammer pin but since I do run at. 22 conversion I'm guessing that's the culprit. Thanks guys for the input and the offers much appreciated.

how does the .22lr conversions put more stress on the hammer pin then firing off a 5.56 round?

"how does the .22lr conversions put more stress on the hammer pin then firing off a 5.56 round?"  –– action is straight blowback (read U.S. patent no. 4,169,329 to Atchisson), not locked bolt as the 5.56 is (read U.S. patent no. 2,951,424 to Stoner).

Had a hammer pin break before it was ever shot - dry fired about 50 times to smooth in the trigger pull when ????????, and discovered the hammer pin had snapped in half.

Not legal advice, MHO, YMMV, etc.

Never in the years I have worked on them have I ever seen a pin break.  Now if you take them in and out a few times they do tend to loosen up to the point they will rattle out on you.

My trigger pin broke yesterday. DPMS lower kit with well less than 500 rds total. I was using a CMMG 22LR conversion kit at the time.

Not uncommon on the .22 conversions or the 9mm AR's. As was stated KNS is THE  "fix".

I dont want to hijack this thread, but I was wondering if anyone uses the KNS pins with Geissele triggers...?   I have a .22 conversion I run in a rifle with the SD 3 gun trigger, and now Im worried about the pin will breaking.   AFAIK, Geissele recommends using the pins they send with the trigger.
