Does anyone have one of these?  What do you think?  Better options?

These are very nice grips for the price, they fit my hand well.  They seem pretty solid as well as have good internal waterproof storage for batteries..etc.  The only thing I would improve would be if they had a flat area to mount the tape switch for a light.  It is more expensive but the LaRue FUG is a better VFG

Personally, I love the KAC vertical grip and you can get them pretty darn cheap on the EE. Can't beat a comfortable, quality grip (I mean it's made by KAC!) for $20.

I have 1.  It's bombproof, lightweight, and I like the waterproof storage (fits a little bottle of CLP perfectly...).  I had no use for a QD function on a VFG.  Only beef is the slotted screw it came with - why do these manufacturers keep sending stuff with slotted screws?  Are hex screws some kind of miracle new invention or something?  Same story with the MIAD/MOE grips from Magpul!  Sorry, rant off...

The Troy VFG is good to go.

I have one, got the thumb screw to go with it incase I ever wanted to take it off easy for bench shooting.

Love the grip, hate the thumb screw, it's too large and digs into my hand so it now sits in a drawer.

So there, buy the grip, save $8 and don't bother with the thumbscrew

This had me confused also. Even a phillips screw would be better than a flathead screw. :P

it's easier to get a slotted screw off.  you're more like to have a dime or something that fits in the slot than a hex.

This may be the case with a VFG but there's no way you can get a coin into the MOE pistol grip and be able to get even close to enough torque to get it off.

that is true.  for externally accessible screws like on a vfg, folding sights, etc it does make sense to go with a slotted screw.

I just can't think of a reason I'll ever need to get one off in a "field-expedient" situation.  With optics, for instance, I'm all about the QD thing, especially if you an't co-witness.  But a VFG?  I'm having trouble thinking of a way for it to be in the way to the point of total nonfunctionality.

You were correct the first time around.  Even with a pistol grip, you would have a better chance of making a field expedient flat head than torx, hex or phillips.  You could probably get a pistol grip with a slotted screw on and off with a butter knife.

I'm not sure about other's but I don't buy QD mounts or accessories primarily to be able to remove them quickly. I buy QD items because they are more secure than screw mounted items. Once a Larue mount, for example, is installed correctly, it's not moving.

excellent point - no thread-locker required.  I like ADM's set-up as well

I really like mine...using it on my A4 clone. What's cool is that it's actually 2 VFG's in 1 - you can unscrew it in half for a shorter version and back to full size depending on your needs and/or requirements.
