I have one simple question about building an upper for the first time. I plan on building a 6.8 SPC upper to use with my current colt that I have. I plan on using all new parts on this upper. My question is, will I need to check the head spacing on this upper when I am finished and before firing it? If so where do I start and what is the steps I need to take to ensure safety for myself and my kids before we plan on firing it. I am not new to AR's at all but I am a green horn when it comes to building. Thanks in advance!

If your bolt and barrel came as a kit you shouldn't have to and it would probably be ok to just mount it all up. If you bought a bolt separately, you shouldn't have to, but it wouldn't hurt.

I don't know anything about the different Spec 6.8spc so I can't comment if there is a difference in headspace between barrels chambered in one or the other.

Check out www.ar15performance.com They are the best at the 6.8 world. They sell their own barrels along with matched bolts. I plan on using them for my 6.8 build.
