I recently finished my flattop build and noticed that my elevation knob won't rotate all the way around from 6/3 to 6. It will go from 1 click below 6/3 to about 3 clicks past 5. It was factory installed from Delton and appears as though there's just not enough threading allowed in the shorter assembly to allow for that much travel. Is this correct? My A2 upper will turn all the way around. Thanks in advance.

Pulling out my rifle now to see if I can re-create what you're describing.....

Hopefully I can come back with an answer.

My carry handle (mil-spec) does not have a "6" marking. It has "6/3", "z", "4", and "5". Those are the 300, 400, 500 and 600 meter elevation settings along with the "zero" setting.

The 6/3 is 300 meters when all the way down and 600 meters when all the way up (or at least that's my understanding). Does your wheel spin all the way around from 6/3 to 6/3? Thanks for the input.

Yes, it does, and no problem.

Sorry, but I couldn't find anything on that link to help me.
Here's some more info for any of you trying to help. With my elevation turned all the way down (1 click below 6/3), I have 18 clicks before it's all the way up. It won't go up any further because the roll pin has bottomed out in the slot of the rear sight base.
Here are the markings and clicks... Starting with 1 click below 6/3, 1 click = 6/3, 3rd click = z, 7th click = 4, 15th click = 5 and then the remaining 3 clicks.
Could it be possible that my elevation markings are wrong? My A2 elevation drum will go from 1 click below 8/3 to 3 clicks above 8/3 (or 1 click below 300m to 3 clicks above 800m).
Thanks everyone.

Thanks for the reply.
Am I correct that there are 2 types of A2 sight bases. One for the 800m rifle and one for the 600m carbine?
Are they the same regardless of the type of upper they are used on?
Thanks.

Well, I disassembled both my A2 and A3 rear sights to compare and they are different. It's not a marking error because the wheel won't make a full turn.I think I can fix my problem by milling out the 7/64 slot, that the roll pin runs through (maybe .002 to start) in order to get the height I need. Worst case, I mill out too much and the sight base won't be restricted/held in by the roll pin. But as long as I don't go beyond 6/3 "high", I should be OK.

Tomorrow I'll pull out my A2 and see what the markings are. You may have an A2 sight assembly installed in an A4 detachable handle (if that's even possible).

No. 8/3 are for A2 uppers and 6/3 are for carry handle uppers. It has nothing to do with the length of the barrel or sight radius, just the fact that the housing for the rear sight is different.

Correct.

Also, the M16A4 (20" rifle) has a 600m rear sight assembly. The detachable carry handle isn't deep enough to allow the adjustment room necessary for an 800m sight assembly. It's not a carbine vs. rifle thing there.
