Has anyone ever used one of these carrying cases to transport or store one of their AR uppers? If so, how did they work. If not, do you have any recomendations?

No but it gives me a nice way to transport targets.  Thanks for the link.

I may be wrong, but those don't look rugged enough to take the beating from an AR upper on the inside.  They appear to be designed to carry light paper stuff, not heavy metal stuff.

I've been using gun cases that are sized for submachine gun sized items.  The ones I have fit a scoped upper plus have pockets for the appropriate mags.  A rifle with one upper and mags in the "big" ("long") case, and upper and other mags in the "small" ("short") case.

Best of luck whatever you decide.

Not legal advice, MHO, YMMV, etc.

I've used the el-cheapo 25" paintball gun cases you can find on ebay for roughly $15.

I think you've hit on something there! I like the idea of a bag like this for upper storage/transportation. Particularly the ones with dedicated bolts because it keeps everything together and clean. And because an upper is safe (can't fire), it could be stored outside the safe/cabinet where space may be at a premium. I would want ballistic nylon, military colors (OD, black, camo),  a handle and a sling and at least one pocket. My gawd; the only thing keeping me from buying uppers was space in the safe - now look what you've done!

I had considered small capped sections of PVC pipe. But will probably just build dedicated lowers for my uppers instead.

Guys, I think I've got the upper case, at least for a 16" upper. It's a USGI spare barrel bag for the SAW, and it fits any upper including with a combat optic, even if mounted on the handle of an A2. Plus, I got 4 30-rd mags in the pockets, and there's some extra room inside for small items. You can find these for sale sometimes at gun shows, etc., but I have 3 extra that I'm putting on the EE later. Length is 29", so it should fit certain SBRs and pistols too.

Not the rack but the tubes or tube type container for the upper. :-)

These look great, do they have any padding to them? I will keep a lookout for one or two of these. Thanks!
