I am looking to buy a LPK and see there are rounded hammers and notched hammers. Why the difference and which one is better to use?

Rounded ones run smoother especially with .22 conversion kits the notch was for older machined out under the firing pin carriers that the notch would catch on should the disconector malfunction or break. Also on unshrouded carriers the notched hammer can beat the crap out of the retaining pin or M16 large collar firing pins.

So it is recommended to use a rounded hammer when using a F/A bcg?

Notched hammers were what was originally designed for an AR. Stick with the notched.

The rounded hammer pictured above is an M-16 hammer, don't use that in an AR-15 with a F/A BCG.

Cut the hook off the tip, and roll with it

I was referring to a rounded hammer such in the spikes LPK or a notched in for example a Stag Lpk

WHAT?  The notch was added to prevent us lowly untrustworthy common folk from easily converting a semi AR to full auto.  Same with the chopped up carrier and sear blocks in Colt lowers.
