So my self and a friend want to build some A2 clone uppers, to replicate what we shoot with in the AF.

He wants to just buy a Rock River A2. I am trying to get all the FN parts I need to build a correct upper.

As I understand it, the RR A2's only come in 1/9 for the Gov profile. How different will that shoot compared to the 1/7 A2's we shoot with in the mil?

I don't understand why he wants a RR when its possible to get a correct FN or Colt upper but whatever......

I built an A2 clone. Bought a new Colt MT 6601 and simply replaced the heavy barrel with a new Colt Government profile barrel assembly I found on the EE

You can build with Shrubmaster, Sabre Defence, or Colt.

Do not know why your buddy is hot to trot with Rock River.  Maybe he read or heard something.

RRA is ok, and I have built a couple of AR''s using their parts (along with their complete CMP upper that is more accurate than I am).

Some of the best deals in AR parts right now are FN parts from A2s that must be coming into the civilian market from refurbished USGI guns.  Somewhere someone's doing a "A2 to M4" swap, 'cause there have been so many barrels lately on the EE it's ridiculous.

I've seen Colt A2 upper receivers sit on the EE for extremely affordable prices 'cause it seems everyone wants M4-type stuff.  Now is the time to buy if you want to make an A2 replica.

That said, I wouldn't have any problem buying the RRA stuff but would prefer something that's gone through gov't testing protocols.

I always liked the A2 style rifles.  Here's the one I built (second one from the top).  I use it as my patrol rifle.  I am not into the carbines with the rails.

I built my A2 by using a Colt M16A2 barreled upper, Colt receiver extension, butt stock and a Colt 6520 Lower.

the colors don't match, but I don't notice it anymore.

Armalite makes a nice A2 upper, as does Bushmaster. You can get both with the 1/7 barrel.

I searched the EE and found a good deal on a Colt A2 upper for my build.  20" A2 uppers don't usually hold their value all that well.... I got a Colt LPK and Colt upper and assembled it all on a Stag lower for the cost of a new Del-Ton.

Here's mine.  Thoight I'd put green furniture on it for a bit of a change.

Just built one for my wife for the exact same reasons. Since she only shoots every 3 yrs in the AF, I wanted something to replicate as close as possible, the A2 she has in the AF.  Had a bushy A2 upper, picked up an FN barrel on the EE and a nice A2 stock from there too.  Used lower parts out of the spare parts box.  The lower is the McKay that NDS sells.  Might have $450 in it and it looks new!  I like it, want one for myself now.
