I am lookin' for a trigger for precision shooting but it will also be used for hunting.  I am trying to decide between the Jard single stage w/ 1 1/2 lb. pull, or the Geissle SSA.  There is only a small difference in price so that doesn't really matter.  Or is there a better trigger that I haven't found yet?

Timney 4lb.

The Jard that you mentioned and the SSA are two completely different animals.  The Jard is more of a precision trigger, while the SSA is a combat trigger.  I really don't know that I'd go out in the field with a rifle that has a 1.5lb pull on the trigger.  That's pretty light.  For your dual purpose use in a single stage, the Timney is nice.  I found the 4lb to be a bit heavy for precision shooting, but doable.  I think the 3lb trigger is perfect.  Good enough for precision shooting and not overly light for the field.

If you are looking for an excellent precision/field trigger in a two stage configuration, the Geissele DMR is hard to beat.  It has a pretty broad adjustment range for practical use.  It is a bit more expensive, but worth every penny.

If for some reason you just want to go with the SSA, skip that and look at the SSA-E or the three gun trigger that Geissele now has available.

This one if you want a "battle" trigger.

One of the others is you want a target/match type trigger.

Geissle, go to ADCO for details.  If you still have questions email [email protected] he will not BS you.

Just got the Geisselle DMR yesterday.  Haven't installed it yet but it's going into my CavArms lower for my 6.8 and deer season.

+1 for the DMR..I have it on two of my precision based AR rifles and it's by far the best two stage trigger I've shot thus far..Other ones I've had were LMT, KAC, and RRA..The KAC is a really nice trigger but, the Giesslle's DMR breaks cleaner IMO..

1.5 # is very light for a hunting trigger...be careful.

Geissele makes a great trigger. I love RRA 2 stages too.

For active field hunting (as contrasted to sniping from a bench or other fixed location), dealing with cold fingers and lots of adrenalin, there's a case to be made for the SSA.  The second stage breaks pretty clean, and you can 'lean' on it a little before it breaks.
I can see some merit to the lighter triggers for bench shooting.

I have LMT 2 stage triggers in all my guns.  I recently built a 20 inch gun and was told that the RRA is very close to the LMT.  I also felt the Geissele trigger.  I ended up taking my friends word for it and bought the RRA 2 stage trigger.  I completely regret it.  Its not a horrible trigger but I definetly feel the LMT is much better.  I feel the LMT is much smoother than the Gessele as well.  I am going to off the RRA and buy a LMT.  I feel that strongly about it.  I did measure the trigger and at the 2nd stage of the LMT it was breaking at 3 lbs 9 oz.

ok so I'm ordering my first AR. its an LRB Arms lower. And I see pretty everyone here replaces their trigger. What is the reason for this. Is it because the factory pull is too much? or are the triggers un-reliable? or is it just the mod-itch? :) I plan on using my AR for hunting with an occasional trip to the range for target shooting.

Geiselle are the only high quality triggers that I have tried. As good as they are, I just don't see how anything else could be better. The Highspeed is incredibly light and can be scary-light to some. The DMR is perfection. My HS came with a DMR spring and it only took one trip to the range to figure out that the DMR spring needed to be in there. Can you say "doubletap'?

First off, do you like single or two stage triggers? If the answer is two stage, go with geissele for sure. Your goals and budget should determine what you pick. I have no experience with the SSA, but I do have a high speed for service rifle competition that I got from ADCO. It is absolute perfection. Light, but not overly light.

This breaks just right, no creep and strikes the perfect feel for tactical and range use.

Chip McCormick tactical trigger:

I wound up getting two and no regrets.    Fits and performs perfectly.

I decided to throw in a KNS pin set too!

i bought a Geissle S3G (Super 3 Gun) and it is simply amazing. i too use my AR for target/hunting/defense and in researching found this to be the one for me. single stage, no adjustments (to come loose - jam or foul), break just as described in literature. IMHO a 2 stage is NOT for hunting/defense. bought it from BravoCompanyUSA.com - the only place i could find it in stock.
