Working on a lightweight build. Trying to decide on the stock. I would like to try and keep the weight as low as possible, however found a decent deal on a MOE stock.
So would you rather have slightly less weight, with a CAR stock Or Slightly more weight, but better looks/ergonomics with a MOE Comments encouraged! |

You should think about balance as well. A lightweight build that loses it's weight from the rear but not from the barrel will not balance well. Add a little more weight to the stock on even the lightest profile non-NFA length barrels and the balance is awesome.
I had an ACS on a 14.5" M4 profile(which I imagine was as light as a 16" LW) and it worked perfectly. |

Quoted: Do you think the CTR is worth it over the MOE? All it really has is the locking lug. Which you can improvise with a little tape on the tube. I don't think the the CTR has anything warranting the price. The other difference are the QD holes, but I run slings from the end plate so it ain't makin' no nevermind to me about no holes. |

I use the vltor mod stock, angled cheek weld, traditional tele stock look but longer rear part, storage and built in QD sling mount housing all in a package just a bit heavier than a CTR depending on whats stored.I store a boresnake and aimpoint batteries. I've got an LMT Sopmod on my other build, and the difference of weight between the Sopmod and the CAR stock is immense. The lower with the sopmod is a full pound heavier, compared to the CAR. I love the Sopmod, and would go back to it in an instant, however I don't want a heavy gun, so therefore I've been trying to decide between a CTR/MOE/CAR stock. I honestly don't know if I want to spend an extra 40ish bucks on QD sling points, and the friction lock. |
| I dont like the friction lock because its exposed and suseptable to damage a concern for me when I take classes the same is true for a tradidtional underneath latch but ive whacked the regualr latch around and its fine,I had a CTR where the stock hit on concrete wall on the friction latch and it cracked and poped out leaving the stock in its posistion until I could diassemble what was left to get the stock going again.I went to MOE after that on my back up..the Vltor is on the primary. |

CTR is a great stock...also take a look at the VLTOR IMod before you decide. I've seen the IMod before, but I assumed it would be rather heavy. Anyone que in with info on weight compared to the MOE? Here is what I found IMod < 9.4 Oz MOE Weight, w/ Receiver Extension: 0.93 lb. |

Actually, you could completely remove the Friction Lock and it would do nothing to affect the adjustment of the stock- the Release Lever is completely independent of it. |
| I have a MOE stock and find it very simple and comfortable - big improvement over the stock stock so to speak. I have read that the CRT is more stable but I have had no problems with the MOE. If you'r getting a really good deal try it out and if you don't like it upgrade and pass the really good deal on to someone else. By the way I agree balance is important my rifle with a 16" barrel, KAC-RAS, AFG and Surefire light balances out at almost dead center, just slightly in front of the mag well, using a MOE stock. |

A broken friction latch would cause the CTR to work just as a MOE does. |
| The older vltor modstock is the best way to go right now IMO. Bravo has them for 49$ and they offer a better cheek weld, storage, and QD sling mounts. I had a MOE and ended up selling it after I tried the modstock. Now I have 3 modstocks...probably the best 150$ I have spend (and saved over regular price) on my AR's (and one on my AK as well). |

Thanks guys for all the help!
I've decided to go with a MOE stock, and picked up an ASAP plate as well as an MS2. I was going to get the IMod stock, however the MOE was considerably cheaper, and college just doesn't allow a huge amount of room for mony, so I went with the MOE. However, I plan to start another build and definentally want to try out the IMod. Thanks for all the input! Appreciate it much, will post pictures of the AR when I get the parts =) |
