Depends on furniture and AR-15 or M-16 internals and sights. Figure approximately 6.25 to 7 lbs with empty mag and sling. I've seen as light as 6 lbs but that was with selected weighed components, a very early A-1 stock, A-2 grip, silent sling, AR-15 BCG and Matech rear sight. With a stubby stock you might get just under 6 lbs without going carbon fiber. Add a M-16 BCG and add approximately 1/4 lb.

Sounds pretty much right; just for reference, my Gummint Carbine with pencil,  irons, silent sling, empty 20 rd, 3" picatinny rail on the front sight, and M-16 BCG is about there by my highly scientific Shimano spring balance...
