I have completed my lower and I'm looking for a complete upper. I have 2 in mind and would appreciate any advice from the people on here who know the 2 options. The first is Spikes Tactical 16" M4 LE Upper (475-525 USD) and the second one is being advertised on here by New Frontier Armory. It is a YHM keyhole upper with YHM/G-Tac accessories (475 USD).
Thanks Mike |

I have. Bravo has great uppers along with Stag, RRA, and others. I'm just trying to keep the cost around 500. Thanks Bravo was recommended as they are of higher quality than RRA, Stag, and many others. They are pretty much one of, if not the best manufacturer of uppers. Cost wise, there isn't much of a difference. Without hand guards, you are looking at $520 for a complete Bravo standard upper. Quality wise, there is a big difference. |

Thanks for the Bravo recommenadaion. They are out of stock on the M4 carbine 16" upper, which is what I would like. But you are right, 520 USD would get it plus the cost of hand guards. I'll keep an eye on the website for updates on stock. Mike Mike, Just curious as to the reason why you are looking for the 16" M4 rather than the 16" midlength, or 14.5" middy or M4? |

No particular reason. I'm new to AR15's. If you don't mind, explain the pros/cons to the different configs. Mike Mike, Will do, or I will attempt to. There are others here who are much better at that than I am. But basically, between a 16" m4 and a 16" middy, the real difference is in the the position of the gas port in the barrel, and the front sight base. The midlength has the gas port and front sight moved farther forward, which has a few big advantages. The advantages, without going into all the technical jargon is that the midlength carbines will tend to be a bit softer shooting, will beat up the internal parts less (so they theoretically will last longer), and will have a longer sight radius, making it easier to shoot accurately with iron sights. The standard carbine length gas system that you find on the M4 style carbines is actually best suited for short barreled carbines, 10.5-12.5" barrels. The 14.5-16" barrels are generally best with a midlength gas system, and 18"-20" are best with rifle length gas systems. Bravo has quite a few options, many of them in stock. One of the best basic general purpose uppers would be the 16" government profile midlength. They also have a lighter weight version of the same, which seems quite popular now. Price is the same. There are also 14.5" carbine and midlength uppers with the same options, and more. Of course, with those you would need to get a longer muzzle device, which adds a small amount to the price. I have had a few of the BCM 16" midlength uppers (due to finances, I have had to sell all but one), and I think thats the best place to start. Although, if cash isn't an issue, I would upgrade to the hammer forged barrel. |

Thanks guys. I may go with a middy from Bravo now. Its 533 USD shipped with bcg and charging handle. Mike I recommend the BCM Standard 16" Mid Length (LIGHT WEIGHT) Upper, I've been very happy with mine. Very good review on it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSBvelQ391E&feature=player_embedded#! |
