PROBLEM: the charging handle is way too hard to pull back. its able to pull back but definately can not use off hand to pull from the left side. i have to lower the gun and fully grip the handle with right hand (trigger hand) and almost push the gun away from me with my left hand just to pull back.

ive had the problem for a while and cant figure out the cause. ive checked to make sure my buffer spring is carbine length and not full. ive checked for abrasion areas on the handle and in the upper receiver area. made sure the handle itself is straight as an arrow. ive even oiled up the whole dang thing to see if itll go smoother. no luck...

IDEAS?????

what type of upper do you have i.e noveske, bushy etc.....I have the same problem with my upper from Rainier Arms.  My BCM CH fits to tight and rubbed the anodizing down to the metal inside the upper.  What type of CH do you have as well?

Sounds like one of the two are out of spec, check the size with some calipers.

its a rock river upper. dunno who made the charging  handle, but its not a tac latch or anything. just a standard one...

but yeah ive looked for abrasions in my receiver like yours but theres none

Does the handle move freely when that's the only thing inside the upper?

Are you able to swap out the CH with another to check function?

the charging handle runs perfectly fine without the bolt carrier in, as in its not a tight fit or anything up in the receiver. if thats the two things your talking about...

yeah the handle moves freely when in by itself, itll prob fall out if turned upside down. but no i dont have another charging handle to replace to check if its the hanlde itself

remove 1 part at a time.

Take off the lower.  and rack it.  If its fine the problem is in the lower.
If it still binds, take out the bcg, and rack it.  If it binds, the problem is with your charging handle.

ect.

Have you fired the rifle? Does the bolt carrier slide in and out easily without the lower attached? Does the buffer and spring move freely in the receiver extension?

Get a membership at the gym?

WHEN THE lower is off and the bcg is in, does it move freely?

yes the weapon fires fine, not a problem. bcg runs fine when coiled back after shot

CH runs smooth with BCG in when lower if off

spring and buffer move freely in tube.

when i try to charge it back its feels as if the spring is too strong or too long but length is correct. nothing feels as if anythings scraping or not smooth. i may buy another just to see what happens.

thanks for the brainstorming though everyone...

Yeah, not trying to be mean, but if everything works.... sounds like you need to pump some iron.

When Hammer is down(implying not cocked) the bolt will be a little harder to pull back because you are pushing against the buffer spring and hammer spring.

Does it go easy when the hammer is cocked?  I bet the trigger is still tight and the buffer spring is still tight.

I saw this one time, but don't know if it applies to your situation:

A customer's gas key was staked so hard that the burrs on the sides of the key gouged into the channel of the upper––under pressure only, ––when assembled, and caused that kind of problem. Dug into his upper pretty good.  He used a MOAKS, but with way too enthusiastic (sp).  Can't say for sure, but you might check,
(nothing against the MOACKS, use one all the time-good tool.)

Have you properly lubed the bolt carrier & charging handle?
