Can the PRI flip-up front sight block (set screws) be used with a regular handguard?

Yes, as long as you install a triangle for full size or round for carbine handguard cap.
Of course you also need the delta ring and spring on the back but I'm sure you already knew that.

Thanks––I just didn't know if the non-stakedness of the base was designed to take the spring pressure of the delta ring pushing the handguard.

It is if you take the time to dimple your barrel so the screws have something to lock down into.

So what if I already installed it before reading this and made no dimples?  It seems to have set about a millimeter forward of where the original FSB was set (it's a Bushy, so I can see the bare metal of the barrel).

If there are no dimples, you run the very likely risk of simply ruining your zero.

If you need set screw dimples, ADCO can hook you up.  Not a terribly slow or expensive procedure.

Alright, it's getting sent off to ADCO tomorrow.  Funny how my "cheap gun" keeps getting more and more expensive.

This happens to me ALL the time! Adco will do you right!

Wow!!
Doesn't anybody own a decent drill press anymore??

I suppose you could do it with a drill press, but you really want a milling machine for that sort of operation.

The sides need to hold the block in place to maintain proper gas block alignment and your zero.
If you know how to do it with a drill press, chances are you already own a milling machine.

If you really know what you're doing, you can "assist" your windage for very long distances using a set-screw front sight assembly.

I could use a drill press, but for $40 I'll make sure it's done right instead.
