Just saw the post for the new Rainier Arms barrel made with 416 steel. Any issues with this particular type of steel, and should I keep looking? I have nothing but good things to say about Rainier Arms, but I wanted to make sure I was getting a good quality barrel with my hard earned pennies.

I would think ANY barrel for that price would be a decent value. a SS barrel in a good contour for that price is insane. I have thought about building a 4th AR just around that barrel. I caved in and bought one within minutes of seeing it. The price is insane. |

Ranier Arms' barrels are very good, I believe they are still using Shilen 1/8 twist ractchet rifled blanks. I own several and am impressed. I don't impress that easily. I visited Ranier's website and discovered that the barrels you referred to are their new economy models. My first guess (because they are 3 groove barrels) is that these are made with PacNor's blanks. I own three Ranier Arms 1/8 SS barrels made with Shilen's blanks, so I'm not in a position to give my experience with these new models. The Shilen's have been very accurate. PacNor is a very good company that sells their barrels by grade. Their cheapest grade is better than most. Their top end barrels are as good as any. I suspect Ranier had some barrels turned using their cheapest grade blanks. For this price you can't go wrong, especially for a blaster rifle. |

Looks pretty tempting, how would 3 groove rifling affect the accuracy and life of the barrel? Lilja is big on 3 groove barrels, and he conservatively estimates the life of the barrel is increased by 20% with a 3 groove setup. Also, he says the accuracy is at least as good as an equivalent barrel with more grooves. Personally, I've had a Lilja 3 groove barrel and it was an amazing shooter. I also have a Benchmark (they're into precision bolt guns, I don't think they do any AR stuff) 3 groove barrel on one of my bolt guns and it's magical. Based on experience with high-quality 3 groove barrels, I am a believer. |

So he replaced it with the Lilja M4 SS barrel Now his DDM4 will shoot 1MOA with several loads I wish I had the money |

Great products and great customer service. For this price, I would not hesitate to buy one. |
