I've decided to buy a Colt 6920 and I have found 2 different versions close to me. Store A has them stacked to the ceiling and store B just has one. Both are the same price but there are a few differences in the 2 at each respective store. the flash hiders are different. Store A version has a typical looking flash hider and LE markings on one side only while store B's has the 3 prong variety flash hider and LE markings on both sides. Store B's also shows signs on the receiver selector where the auto fire was removed while store A shows no evdence of an auto fire selection. Store B also has raised up letters on the receiver at the selector painted in red "Fire" and white "Safe" and all of store A's have standard markings with no paint on the receiver indicating safe and fire positions. I didn't have my camera or I would have taken pictures. None of this appears to be a big deal but there are enough differences to make me wonder.
I did not see any other differences but I am somewhat new to AR's. Does anyone have any feelings on which would be better to buy? |

Thanks for the replies guys, I've heard enough to be convinced already. I didn't know if the one was some kind of rare type or something. I like the owner of store B better and was wanting to buy there but it doesn't seem to be a smart move.
Thanks for all the advice |

All your options raise concerns about the rifles being accurate 6920 rifles from Colt. I would ask to see the boxes that come with the rifles and check the serial numbers on the box with the rifles.
The 6920 has the standard A2 flash hider/compensator. There is nothing long, raised, or painted on any 6920's from the factory. Mike |

'Store B's also shows signs on the receiver selector where the auto fire was removed '
Sounds like somebody tried to create a Colt out of who knows what. You see, you can buy a lower with the 'auto' marking that is not a machine gun and never was - it just has a mark on the receiver as if it were. So somebody used such a receiver to try to make a counterfeit Colt. So the receiver actually had the Colt logo/info on it? Wow. I'm thinking prison time for the dude that made that (tampering with/defacing serial number and manufacturer's name/marks). The alternative is worse; they tried to make a semi lower out of an auto. Once an auto, always an auto. Again, the cell door slams shut. |

In fact, it had the LE markings on both sides of the receiver whereas the other ones I looked at only had LE markings on one side. The guy that owns the shop has the best rep of anyone around though. He's pretty knowledgable and I just don;t see him selling some illegal or counterfeit stuff. I will take a look again when I go back out there and see if I can take a few pictures so that you guys know exactly what I am talking about. As I said, I'm pretty new to AR's and trying to describe this stuff as best as I can. They are definately 2 different versions that I looked at though. |

Could the flash hider possibly have been a four prong Vortex, like these? http://home.comcast.net/~cjan99999/low_light_M4s.jpg Or a three prong AAC Blackout, like this? http://media.midwayusa.com/ProductImages/Medium/857732.jpg Neither is OEM Colt, I'm just curious about what that dealer is selling. Also, when you said the lettering was raised, do you mean raised like it would be on a cast lower? It's definately like the picture you have listed as AAC Blackout, just like it. As far as the raising, it felt like the metal itself was raised up and then painted. I don't know if that means it is cast or not. My mind is already made up not to buy it but the next time I go, I will snap a shot of it and post here, just for my own education's sake. |

Are they selling them for the same price, or is Store B's price a good bit lower. It sounds like store B's is a parts gun and not an original 6920. It might have been one that someone previously owned and personalized a bit Both are the same price. $1200 |
