Don't have a vice or a fancy Brownells receiver jaws, but why would that stop me from installing a free float on my LAR-8 when I have a 3 ton car, a torque wrench, and my wife's tennis racket??

I usually just stand on them, but that works too I guess.

It's also a very good way to deform the upper reciever and make it function poorly or not at all.  The reason for the brownells vice block and the thingie that goes inside the upper is to keep the upper completely supported both inside and out.  It's very easy to crush or twist an upper when using a vice or torque wrench with no support device to keep everything where it's supposed to be.

I completely agree, that's why I *at least* used a torque wrench. The hacker in me would have just tightened her up until the gas hole aligned

Hey, if it works, cool! I've assembled a 5.56 free floated upper with nothing more than my legs(vice), fancy channel locks, a punch, and a tack hammer, no fancy barrel wrench or vice blocks. It runs perfectly, probably to the surprise of many out there!

exactly, these are war rifles GD it! I could probably run over that receiver/barrel and it would still fire to minute of chest, like in those magpul ads. Now the scope and PVS I DO NOT fuck with.. I know my limits

underneath the receiver (under tire) so I didn't scratch it up, it was the closest thing I could reach for while I was bangin away down there and noticed sparks flying, I thought, hmm.. sparks, gas tank, fire arm.. not a good idea

I was thinking the same... looks like a GTI probably more like 3000lbs (not 6000).

I meant 3000lbs, it's an M3 2002, came complete with a trunk monkey, phased out in later models due to lawsuits
