Now, before the snickers start... I built it for my daughter.  I hope she likes it and that she keeps shooting as a lifelong hobby and passes it on to the children she might have someday.

I built it off of a DPMS Lite 16" A3 kit I got on sale ($400), a SI Defense lower receiver I got locally for ($85), a Cavalry Arms furniture set ($140), and some misc buffer parts ($40). The PMAG and Daniel Defense rear sight I had laying around. If I don't include the cost of the first receiver I tried, which turned into a fiasco, and deduct the $50 I got from selling the DPMS furniture that came with the kit then my total cost was about $615.  Now I just need to get it to the range for an ops check and sight in before giving it to my little girl.

I was originally hesitant to go with the SI Defense lower receiver after reading some of the reviews on their bad uppers that hit a while ago, but after I went to their showroom and inspected their products I was hooked.  The fit and finish on the receiver I bought is outstanding in my opinion and they were nice enough to let me handle dang near everything they had on display.  They also gave me a few pointers about assembly and sent me on my way a happy customer.  I think that their quality control problems are behind them, and I think it's cool that my daughter's rifle will have our hometown's name on the side of it.

Overall, assembly was fun.  The first receiver was a learning experience and the second one went together nice and easily.  I was surprised by how quickly the barrel nut went from hand tight to not budging.  I'm wondering why I didn't start putting these together sooner.

nice job Dad.....but may I suggest that you color in the "SAFE" and "FIRE" markings on both sides (just to make it a bit easier for your daughter to be able to see them) and move the sight to the rearmost slot, if it's not already there, before you hand that beauty over.

She'll be 10 in December.  I might have pulled the trigger a little early, but I think she's responsible enough with shooting and tall enough already to handle it.  If not, she'll grow into it.

Good tip, I moved the sight back as far as possible when I got home.

Duracoat makes a pink version that goes good with the cavarms stuff.

Crappy pic of the old pink rifle I had. Sold the rifle but still have the mags, plastic, and gear selector sling. Thinking about building another but in an sbr down the road. Anyway the duracoat looks better in person, the flash threw off the color. Held up fine on the flash hider as well.

If my little girl sees these pink guns I'm done.  Seriously though I'm gonna build her a rig like this when she is old enough to go to the range.  I'm looking foward to it.  Thanks for posting.

Thanks for the compliments folks.  The front sight post is the round A1 style, I haven't shot it yet so I don't know how it behaves, but do you think that an A2 style post would be easier for her to shoot with?

Update:  I took it to the range today and it ran like a top.  Any worries I had from what I've heard about DPMS barrels is gone.  I did have to switch the A1 front sight for a taller A2 style post to get it zeroed at 50 yards.  Too bad her birthday isn't until December, waiting to give it to my kiddo is killing me.
