As the title says, I finally received my first AR this week. We have had lots of flooding here, so today I finally got to shoot it a bit. Took it out to my dad's farm and fired roughly 400 rounds. I shot a variety of ammo, Federal, Tula, Brown Bear, Wolf... pretty much anything I had leftover from the old Mini-14 and some new stuff I bought. The rifle funtioned perfectly ( I know, 400 rounds isn't alot, but boy was it fun!!) I didn't do any kind of accuracy tests or groupings...pretty much just milk jugs, bottles, etc at around 100 yards. Pretty much all I have to say is, what a blast these rifles are! I own Garands, AK's, SKS's, and of course a couple shotguns and hunting rifles so this was a new experience for me, I must say this will not be my only AR! I plan on running some sort of red dot and also will be looking for a 3-9 power scope and mount for coyotes this winter.

Yep. You are gonna love your Spikes. I have sold over 25 of them in the last 3 months. 25 happy customers. One thing I can report on is at least a couple of them hated Wolf Ammo. The steel cases get stuck in the chamber. For those of you that want to shoot Wolf I would recommend you have a cleaning rod in your bag so you can get the stuck case out.

Welcome to the club hope you don't get to addicted. Very nice choice on your first AR Spikes have great product out there keep us update with that optic choice. I would recommend an Eotech or Aimpoint on a Larue throw lever for that red dot and another throw lever mount for that coyote sight so you dont really have to worry about any major adjustments for zeroing every time you switch optics. |

Great looking rifle. I have a Spike's .22lr dedicated upper and the quality is great.
Like others have said, for the red dot you should be looking into an Eotech or an Aimpoint. Do some research to see which one will suit you best. Both have their advantages/disadvantages. Both are considered high quality optics. The only other suggestion I would have for your rifle is a light. You can find some great options for a reasonable price. Personally I run a Surefire G2 LED in a Vikings Tactics mount. |

Thanks guys. I really am liking the BAR rail also, fits my hand really well and even without the VFG it's really comfortable to shoot. UBB, it's a Magpul RVG. It comes with a little section of rail, I'm assuming to bolt onto your handguards if you don't have a quadrail. I kind of use it as a handstop more than a grip....almost like an angled foregrip, but not quite as extreme. Seems to work really well, although I am still learning! |
