| On a recent build i installed a spikes tactical ST-T2 heavy buffer on my bcm lower and DD upper. I experienced failures to feed/eject on about 1 in every 3 rounds with about 300 rounds tested. I switched out the buffers with a bushy mil spec carbine buffer and the gun cycled flawlessly. Has anyone else had a problem with spikes heavy buffer? |

Short stroking on a carbine that ran fine with a 9mm buffer maybe its the tugsten powder as weights instead of solid tungsten. It did this in both my DI carbines and the same thing in my Osprey piston carbines.I went back to 9mm buffers and H3s. Yeah I like the wieghts in the regular up graded Buffers! Alot better than the cheap Old BB type or powder Havent tried the H3 yet My 9mm buffer has some wieghts inside of it. I have yet to see my 9mm buffer here at AR15.com To scared to pull off the rubber and it hasnt any screws or pins So far no jams and almost 3000rds of all types of ammo |

It really boils down to each individual rifle. Lots of folks rave about their super-duper heavy, uranium filled H9 buffer. Don't get me wrong, they have their place, and some guns work best with. They sure do help with recoil, IMO. I have two SBRs, and I did experimenting with the buffers. My 10.5" LMT would not hold back on the last round with any H Buffer. It ran flawlessly and best with the carbine buffer. I've since switched to an AA Piston kit with it, and it works best with an H Buffer. I have a 12.5" SBR w/ Denny's Operator Barrel that runs flawless and best with an H Buffer as well.
Yes, some of the idea isn't just function, and cut bolt-bounce, but to keep the bolt carrier from accelerating wear on your rifle. With the buffers that work best, I don't see any signs of accelerated wear. Experiment, have fun. Then sell what doesn't work for you.....that's what I did |

Quoted: Did you ask Spikes? It sounds like you just had too heavy a buffer for your application. Heaviest buffer that operates reliably is what I use. I would second this statement. Run it as slow as it will reliably go. I've replaced the carbine buffers in all of my rifles with the ST-T2 and have been very pleased with the result, less cycling noise (if you're in to that and I know many prefer the traditional AR sound) and less felt recoil. That said, I've recently put together an Adams Arms Piston Carbine. I have yet to fire it as I await a front sight. It will be interesting to see if it works as well for me in this application. |
