I just purchased a S&W AR with Eotech 512 from Gander Mountain this weekend for $1199. I know it's still probably to much but they also had zero interest for a year so I bought it. It came with the Eotech but no iron sites. I have a Matech rear sight and was wondering what height front site to purchase. I see where some say tall some say low profile  and some don't reference the height at all.  The S&W has a weaver gas block.
I have owned an RRA which I thought was a great rifle, The S&W shoots and performs as well and seems to be just as tight but the trigger on the Smith is not as good as the RRA.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Yes you overpaid, but who cares as long as you're happy.

The Matech will work fine for the rear. For the front, you'll need a sight made to mount on a railed gas block (versus a rail-mount). The one for your rifle will be just a bit shorter than one designed to mount on a free-float forend. And BTW, your rifle has a Picatinny/M1913 rail, not a Weaver (although Weaver stuff will work, too).

Is the flat top a pictanny rail also and not a weaver?

Yes, it's also Picatinny.

Are you sure the sight should be shorter? I think it might be the same size as one that would be used on a rail. Here is a picture of the one I think he's talking about.

I appears that the sight is even with the upper reciever rail which I would think would be the same height as all the rails out there. So wouldn't front sight used on handguard rails also work on the Smith's front gas block also? I'm not trying to be a smartass just really asking a question because I'm curious.

Ooooh, you might be right.

Looking at that pic, now I'm not so sure.

OP, you may want to call S&W tomorrow and ask them. Or wait for a more educated reply.

That is the same rifle I have and I do believe it is level with the flattop, I will lay a staight edge on it to be sure. If it is the same height then what does that mean as far as what I should buy?

For a fixed look at DD or LMT.  For folding, Troy.  Don't use a Magpul MBUS as they aren't meant to be mounted to gas blacks due to the extreme heat and their polymer composition.
