Hey everybody,

I just picked up a LW50 barrel from spike's with the NiB m4 ramps and want to know what comp i should perm attach to it for HD/SHTF as we cant have flash suppressors in CT on post ban rifles. I've been looking at Rainier XTC PWS FSC556 and BCE BattleComp but i wanna know what else is out there. I really want some good flash suppressing abilities and not too much noise. How would these compare to just running a bull barrel like I am now?

Check out the JPrifles.com Tactical compensator.  JP is legendary in the industry for recoil reduction, but they have a tactical line of compensators that are not as large as their precision ones.

I really like my PWS but it's not on the quiet end of the noise spectrum. Like most comps, most of the noise is not directed toward the shooter, but around the sides and forward. It's not THAT much louder than a clean muzzle for the shooter.

I've got an AR with the PWS and one with nothing if you want to shoot both at HGC, obviously indoors isn't doable there, but you can get an idea of the noise factor.

For the record, I'm not sure the PWS is really any better a comp than the low priced Yankee Hill aggressive end phantom. It adds flash hiding abilities without going over the line and becoming a flash hider, and it looks more elegant, but in actual performance as a comp I'm not sure there's a difference.

I've been running the BattleComp for a few weeks now and I'm impressed with how well it does reduce the blast and noise to the sides of the comp, even inside a house (or shoothouse).  This works out to your advantage when in confined spaces and you don't want the blast to blow the walls down.  It's a good mix of recoil reduction and pressure redirection.

SEI also makes a couple of comps for AR's... the one patterened after their USCG brake seems to work well at controlling the muzzle...

I just started running the Battle Comp, this past weekend. For my needs, it works much better than I had expected .

I have the Beenie Cooley Tactical Comp.

No complaints, yeah it's a little loud but the barrel barely moves.  Well worth the money.

I'm really lookin to get a little more sound supression and whatever brake characteristics is a bonus... I like the BattleComp but not so much the $

HGC is hartford gun club.
As for noise, I've yet to see one that didn't make things louder. You notice it. Particularly inside where the concussion has something to work with and reflect off of.

IM me if you wanna hit the range, but basically, the PWS is a great comp, but not any better than anything else on noise. I have yet to see a comp that worked well that didn't increase the volume, it's just a matter of how much. I wanted reduced movement under recoil for faster follow ups and figured the reduced muzzle flash couldn't hurt, plus the look just did it for me. Noise wasn't part of the equation.

Good choice - it's a excellent product that really does help make you a faster shooter.

That battle comp looks sweet on that rifle.  But I can't seem to pull the trigger on one for myself.

The way I saw it is that I might as well have gotten it because more than likely I'd be kicking myself later on for not doing it.
