I won't call the tool a total POS, but it certainly sucks at removing castle nuts. Let's just say I have a Spikes stock wrench and new castle nut enroute.

Mine works fine for castle nuts, used it 4-5x now.

Years ago I broke a DPMS tool in half while trying to remove a stubborn barrel nut. Apparently DPMS had a bad batch go out. While waiting for the warranty replacement I picked up an Olympic wrench locally, and I've been using it ever since. Despite their less than stellar reputation the Oly wrench is a damn nice tool that is exceptionally well made

Yeah, that little nub is garbage. It sucks when you have put everything in without a scratch and trash the castle nut with the DPMS tool. It has been GTG for everything else it is intended for. I ended up buying a RRA stock wrench. It's the only RRA product I own and it is a damn fine one Works great every time and doesn't trash the nut.

Broke mine too, welded it back together and am still using it.
It's been used and abused but still works.
