Hi All!!!   I just bought a new Double Star m4/a3 at a funshow saturday, and took it to the range on sunday. I ran 200 rounds of American Eagle M855 (the stuff in the green box) through it  and never had a single problem of any kind. There seems to be very little info on here about Double Star, so is there any known problems that I should be on the lookout for concerning this brand?

I'll have to get them up later. My battery is dead in my camera.

Double star's are nice sticks.  I have fired 2 in my short lifetime and liked them both.

most members here like the COLT ,  SPIKE .but to itch his own

E.R SHAW usually makes the Barrel's / uppers like they do for most of the AR brands...

would i purchase another one HELL YES

here is a link to J&T , go to the industry section @ the top of the page , under J&T ask for their input

Nothing that I've heard of. They aren't what some would say is the best choice, but the guns I've seen have been good quality, and they seemed to shoot fine, so who cares?

All of my lowers are Double Star. I put Stag upper kits on.
Not because I have a problem with DS uppers.
When I sarted building I don't think they made uppers.
If it ain't broke, why fix it. My set ups run 100% on any ammo.

No problems with my DS. It has run well.

Bought mine because the price can't be beat by any other maker. Has run great and is very accurate at the 30-35m that I've shot so far. Checked out DPMS, Stag and S&W since I bought it. The fit and finish of the DS is as least as good as these guns that cost a hell of a lot more. Very happy with the choice I made. Plus, unlike some others, it's made in a free state.

Hmmm do a training course or partake in a rifle competition and tell us how it runs!

Double Star/J&T make extrememly good rifles and parts kits, i feel they are on par with Stag, Rock River commercial grade guns. the LPK's are excellent and very reasonablly priced. i've had zero trouble from D/S J&T rifles that i have assembled, you should have very good service out of your new rifle

I've stated this several times.  I got hired by a company just as I retired.  Did a severe heavy train up (Mystic in NM) prior to deployment and most were former SF soldiers.  Went down range with 72 DS carbines.  Very few minor issues.  (1 castle nut came loose).
Me with my DS carbine in middle.

They are decent for the price you pay. But for another Cnote you could have a Milspec rifle from Spikes. I bought a DS from Buds when they had their deal going. I traded it straight across for a Colt MT6700 with 15 rounds through it. I had it traded before it even arrived at my FFL. I have fired  a few DS and they all went bang. If I were going to war with it, I would prefer taking my Colt though. Just me and my .02 and that's all it's worth.

I got a completely fubar doublestar stripped lower, but I've only seen one other person who had the same problem. I haven't seen much about the assembled rifles. When they first came out I don't think they were cost competitive, I don't know if that has changed

Have you guys found a good finish match for DoubleStar lowers? I like Spike's, but it's not a 100% match.

(Please don't say "finish doesn't matter, only function counts." I like my guns to look nice.)

I bought my Double Star because, after 23 years of being mostly an AK-guy, I wanted to get into the AR-world.  I bought a Bushmaster a few years ago and it gave me nothing but problems, and it nearly turned me against AR's permanantly. But, I am very happy with my Double Star. I went to the range today and put another 200 rounds through it with zero problems of any kind. I dont plan on selling any of my AK's,but I do believe this is turning into my new favorite range rifle.

Am I incorrect?  Would you rather just let someone continue to spout off the wrong crap?

Finished a DoubleStar build about two years ago, fine rifle, lower has a good finish. Fits well with the three other uppers I have, DPMS, Bushy, and Delton.

I had three RRA lowers that I put J&T parts kits on,  one is a 7.5" pistol,  one is a 16" hbar,  and one is a 16" lightweight  (I hate M4 cuts on a 16"bbl)  my 7.5"  has never had a stoppage of any kind (around 3,000 rounds) my 16" hbar is my favorite range toy,  well that and my Saiga 12,

my hbar has had a few stoppages (maybe 5 bolt overs in 10,000 rounds)  due to bad mags.  I would trust my life in that hbar over even my Colt 1969 M16A1 upper.  The lightweight I put together for my GF has not been fired  yet.
me and my hbar

my hbar,  my SGL,  my converted Saiga 12,  and my 590,  my friends m44

The ones we used in VN were milspec. That was the problem. Being in DOD Acquisition I can assure you milspec doesn't guarantee anything except made within often too wide tolerances. The M-9 is 'milspec,' but the guys I know who go to dark places toss them for SIGs or Hi-Powers that aren't.

+1 - Mil spec doesn't mean you're getting a hand-built weapon. People seem to think mil spec = infallible

No experience with double star rifles, but I have put together a few J&T kits (same company) that ran great. I would not hesitate to buy a double star.

I was constantly having FTF's no matter what mag or ammo combination I used. Usually at least 3 or 4 per mag. I couldnt get any decent groups, in fact, the rifle was so innacurate, I couldnt even set the sights. On occasion, the buffer would get stuck about a third of the way back in the tube. I sent it back to Bushmaster on 3 occasions. Each time, they told me it was fine and sent it back. After about a year of trying to get it right, I became fed up with it and sold it. For what I paid for it, I was expecting much better quality.
