Hello everyone, my dad shoots lefty and is thinking about getting a new AR.  Does anyone make an AR that wont have brass flying in front of his face?

Only Stag Arms.

As a Lefty it has never bothered me.
All I own are regular Ar's because I want to be able to use parts from anywhere.
Also so that I can pick up any AR and use it without having to think about it not being the same as what I'm used to.

I have a buddy thats a southpaw with a lefthanded Stag AR. He loves it.

Take your pick.

Apparently you can get a LH Noveske, but I've never actually seen one in the wild.

I liked mine but sold it because no one makes a M16 LH BCG.

I shoot lefty and have zero issues with the standard AR configuration.  IMO lefty AR uppers are a novelty item and limit your choices to only a handful of manufacturers.

Stags rifles are quality.  They are a great weapon to go with.  Could easily buy the BCG and upper, then build from there.  Their barrels are good, I had a stag 2t for a few years and it functioned great with no accuracy issues at all.

Built one up for my brother who has to use his issued weapon (righty) all the time, and he digs the left hand eject.  Gave him ambi controls as well.

Actually I have seen Stag started making them within the last year or so found them on Gunbroker, and read some of the LH Stag rifles are coming with the LH M16 BCG now.

I love my Stag lefty and it has been 100% reliable.  Also, while I haven't seen one, I confirmed with Tom a couple weeks ago that Spike's can make lefties.  Sounds like it's about $150 more for a lefty version though on top of the normal price.  That's why I ordered my latest one normal.

The left -handed Stag is a marketing gimmick IMO.  I know plenty of lefties who have no problem shooting a standard AR, the brass deflector does it's job.  I also have a left-handed buddy who bought into the hype and purchased a left-handed model, which I (who am right-handed) have shot with out any problems.  So I would stick with the standard, and not have to worry about replacing non-standard parts that can only be purchased from Stag.

+100.  If the shooter is focused where he is supposed to be, he wont even notice the brass.  I shoot a 10.5 DI gun suppressed left handed and the "gas face" really is not that bad.  Keep your system uniform, don't complicate it.  The military has lefties and they still shoot M4's and M9's...

I had a full auto carrier in my stag left handed gun via a cmmg piston conversion.

I wouldn't call it a marketing gimmick. It has a purpose. One can use a right eject rifle but a left ejecting gun is going to work better.

Also DPMS makes southpaw parts for the AR. CMMG makes a left handed piston conversion for them. You do have at least a few vendors for options. As far as buying a left handed upper you have the noveske upper for a higher end one. The left handed parts from stag are not that much more then the right handed ones. For everyone that talks about having spare parts I don't see what the big deal is with having a left handed upper. Keep a spare bolt on hand.

You don't "need" a lefty AR, but if you're a lefty, why the heck not?  I've owned ARs since 1993, and I have had hot brass down the front of my shirt or in my shirt sleeve, bouncing off my forearm, etc.  And for casual shooting at the range, I did notice the gas in the face.

There are only THREE PARTS that are different on the Stag - the actual upper receiver, the STRIPPED bolt, and the STRIPPED carrier.  The extractor, ejector, springs, cam pin, etc. are all the same as any other AR.  Regardless of which side your AR ejects on, you should have your OWN spare parts, (bolt, extractor, ejector) since, in a SHTF situation, you are the only person you can depend on to support you.

When you "pick up" another AR, you don't have to stop and wonder whether it ejects to the left or right, so this argument makes no sense at all.  Of course, I do use an ambi safety and mag release, but not sure when I'll be "picking up" an AR just laying around and it's going to matter whether or not I have to look for the safety.  If my buddy lets me shoot his AK, I'm going to have to stop and think.  If I shoot my dad's M1 Carbine, well, I need to assess that too, so why does it matter that my AR (in fact, all 4 of my current ARs) have an ambi safety and mag release and eject out of the southpaw side?

Thank you. Get the rifle setup the way it works for you. If you are left handed having it edject to the left just makes it easier. Hell I'll going to end up picking up kac lowers at some point for the ambi mag release as I think the norgon and the bad lever combo suck(both seem to work fine on their own). Left my other ar's with a kac mag release.

I have a Stag 2L  lefty upper on a DPMS lower. It was my first AR and I bought it from a friend who was in financial trouble. The rifle runs great  never had issues except with some wolf ammo.  I personally like the left handed AR because where I shoot the walls of the range tend to send brass down my shirt and have been burned more than once. Though even with that I agree with getting a standard AR because you are limited to Stag for BCGs Bolts  and what ever is lefty only. If some thing happens to this AR I will be replacing it with a Spikes for sure

Ever seen two people firing AR/M16's side by side?  Doesn't seem so novelty when you're the guy on the right!

to be perfectly honest, i have used so many ar's that are righty, and have never had a problem, bieng a lefty. i just got my first ar-15 a s&w orc and its righty i shoot it with no problem. furthermore, i have never met a lefty that opts to use lefty guns. first off, it degrades any resale value a lot. 2nd you wont feel comfrotable using other people's rifles. good luck with the choice though. check out stag they got a lefty modle.

The only difference is where the bullet ejects from and the bolt/BCG are reversed other than that the guns are exactly the same, oh and the ejection port door flips up.

I can shoot either way right or left but im naturally a lefty and just so happened some one was selling a lefty AR

Hey Evile -

I just happen to have one right-handed AR upper that I haven't gotten around to replacing with a lefty yet.  Wanna trade?  :)

BTW, you're not limited to Stag bolts...  CMMG makes them, even MGI makes a left handed HYDRA.  They did a run of lefty 7.62x39 a while back.  Next time they offer them, I'll be jumping on one.

I really got tired of the norm. Being left eyed dominant, I wanted something different, and Stag/Bushmaster did the job!
