Hello ARF, this is a great site. I bought an A2 style SOG Armory rifle at a  local gunshop here. I went with A2 because thats what im used to from the USAF, and I got a good deal on trade with a Mossberg 500A.
I am wondering if anyone knows the reputation of the company? I cant find much info by the way of Google, except for SOG's website. Thanks!

Hindsight is 20/20

Always ask before you buy something.

Indeed, I'm not sure what you paid but it seems you may have purchased the quality of DPMS (or even worse) for the price of a BCM/Colt/LMT/Spike's, etc.

Yeah, it should.

There are a lot of resources on the web to check when making big ticket item purchases, you should use them beforehand.

Well, i seperated the receivers at the shop and inspected the bolt carrier and bolt, etc. and the rifle looked pretty good. I have done business with the guy a few times before. As I stated earlier sir, i have not found  much opinion on the web about these weapons. I thought it may just be a small Texas company, explaining the lack of reviews. Thank you for informing me that the web is full of resources.

The problem with outfits like SOG is we don't know to what, if any, standard their parts are made to.

AR parts will all look alike, but that doesn't mean the bolt is made out of Carpenter 158, it's properly heat treated, HPT and MPI inspected. They use 1/9 twist barrels and that is usually a flag. Companies that use 1/9 twist barrels will generally cut corners in production costs. They also use 4140 and not 4150 steel. This is just the tip of the iceberg, but the point is for the $1399 price tag on their site you can get a WHOLE lot more. That's all I'm saying. I'm not trying to belittle you, or demean your purchase.

I do not care if its a hesse/titan....I would at least shoot it before getting down on it brother......you never know, they might have built a great rifle on yours...although not the standard from a company like SOG, it should at bare minimum serve as a nice weapon to get yourself reacquainted with the platform before moving on.

You should not get down on your purchase until your purchase lets you down....so give it good workout, I bet It is still fun as hell to shoot...as long as its shooting

No offense taken, sir. Thank you for the replies also. How does the 1:9 twist affect performance of 5.56? I have put about 60 rounds through the thing with 55 grain XM193 and it seems to run good. I don't have a bunch of experience with AR's besides periodic rifle quals.

I got 300 for the used 500A, and paid 425 for the rifle. Seemed good to me, the shotgun sat in the safe all the time. It is a bare 20 inch A2 though, no fancy extras except the Redi-Mag that I added.

Oh, well then enjoy it. Use it as a building block to learn about the platform.
