GS-3090 Hand stop:
The KAC hand stop has been around for a while, and it seems Gear Sector may have one upped them with their release of the GS-3090 hand stop. I've never used the KAC, as it never looked right to me, being too squared on the sides. The GS appealed to me because it not only fixes this, but also adds a convex curve to the contact surface to allow your hand to wrap around it better. Plus, let's be frank, it looks B.A. Durability is OK. The aluminum seems tough, but the finish isn't very thick. I would expect it to stand up to rugged abuse like an old farmer's wife - still a work horse, but it might not be pretty. I set it down on my slate table and the finish had a scratch down to the metal. I'm not very careful with it because I don't plan on selling it. Usability is excellent. I'd take this over the AFG any day (I sold my AFG). It offers a secure stop for your hand, and is surprisingly ergonomic. I use it with either my small finger or ring finger resting on it, either works well. Many people like to combine two of them to use underneath, and on the side, reversed, with their thumb webbing pressed against it. I would love to try this, as it seems like an excellent idea. If you rotate your hand so that your 2nd knuckle is centered on it, you'll be losing the benefits of the comfortable surface curve. It won't feel natural. The only gripe I have is the hex screw. The head is too tall and my finger tends to wrap around it. A round headed screw might offer a better grip, and I'll probably pick one up at Lowe's to see how I like it. The head may not fit inside the hole though. If you like KISS, but you want something to grip besides the hand guard, this is a must for you. It is streamline, smooth, and comfortable. I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't use a VFG or AFG. The hand stop is pretty tall. It is noticeably taller than the Magpul XT panels, but fit the XTM pretty well. It looks like it was made to be used with the Tango Down panels. Now if you know me, you know I don't buy products because of the "cool" factor. Just look at my beloved Stark grip (though I don't really think it looks bad). But I can't get over how SWEET this hand stop is. Turn it backwards and put it towards the end of the rail for a real wow factor. I love this thing. I'm still using my RVG over the hand stop because it's easier to access my light, but I still keep the hand stop on, as shown in the pictures. Summary- If you love KISS or use the (what I call) overhand grip, this is a must. It's pretty close to perfection, and feels extremely natural. So my rating out of (vain , proud , emoVain!
BUY IT.
Hand position with the HS centered between the 2nd knuckle and base of the finger.
Hand position with the HS centered between the 1st and 2nd knuckle.
Hex bolt getting in the wayl
Perfect curve
Close up of the curve
Fit with XT panels. I like it because it offers more of a gradual step up, even though it doesn't look as nice as with XTM panels.
Forward location looks cool. I don't keep it here.
My current set up. HS is used as forward stop, RVG as back stop and grip, providing a variety of options and easy access to the light (Inova T1).
If you're looking for forward grip options, check out my RVG review HERE |

Link to mine
I use mine a little differently then most. But I really like them. The light mount is great, and the sling mount is my new favorite.
And I cross linked this in the other thread. |

I've seen aluminum vert grips get pretty hot under sustained fire. Any issues with this? I have two issues with metal VFG's. One is heat, and one is cold. Heat is bad. Cold is not so bad, but if its cold and wet you stick to it. Another reason to wear gloves. I have seen some wrap the CQD VFG with paracord to avoid some of these issues. And that's why I use plastic. That being said, the CQD grip is very nice. |
