This is a two part question, but the first one is the most important.
How can sure for sure what brand an upper is? I found a "Noveske 10.5" upper" with an Aimpoint ML3 and a Daniel Defense M4 rail. Now, the upper has been duracoated over, and I can't tell if the Noveske symbol is on the upper, is there any other way I can ensure this is a Noveske upper? I called the gentleman at the store and he assured me it was a Noveske, however for the money I don't want to get screwed over, I was planning to get an Aimpoint M4, however on my poor college salary it would take me well over 6 months to finally afford it, so an M2 or M3 were more along my range, price wise. And the rail system is perfect because I wanted to mount an Adams Arms Piston system. Now my Second question, and I know this one will get alot of debate. Originally I had planned to purchase an LMT 10.5 upper, however I have done a little reading and found alot of people prefer the noveske. I would be able to justify spending the money on the Noveske upper above, due to all the extras, however if I can't tell for sure it's Noveske (specifically the barrel) then I'll stick with an LMT upper, because I just can't afford the Noveske right now. Also, I have contemplated getting a CMMG 10.3" with piston conversion, but I want a GOOD upper for my first SBR. |

LMT and Noveske are both considered tops.......I would only go with those 2 out of your choices Yeah, that was my idea. The only reason I looked over the CMMG, is because of how cheap it was with the piston, over 300 dollare cheaper then the LMT, but the piston system can wait, so I'd prefer to get a good solid upper right now, and a piston system later. I'm honestly thinking about the "noveske" even if it's not Noveske, it still has all the parts I need, then I can just buy an LMT stripped upper. |

Actually the upper receiver on Noveske's is made by CMT if I'm not mistaken. The Noveske barrel is the part responsible for the great reputation. |

That's really all I care about, although the trademarks do look cool. So is there anyway to know for sure if the barrel is Noveske? I know they have trades on the upper receiver, but its painted, so I can't visibly tell. are these just laser cut, or engraved? if the latter I could ask for better pictures. |

The barrel should be marked with a small maltese cross near the muzzle end, at least the stainless ones I have are. I don't believe the barrel is stainless, as it has a standard triangle FSB, and I believe from what I read the SS one's only have the low profile ones, also the barrel is painted. Would the cross be in front of the FSB, or behind it, hiding under the rails? |
| So is it a general rule that the cross will be up in front of the FSB, even with an N4 light basic barrel thats 10.5" That doesn't leave much room? Or will it be on the body of the barrel, under the Rails? If it is under the rails, is there an easy way to see? Will paint cover up the rollmarks? |

I can still see the rollmarks clearly on the barrel of a carbine I painted with Krylon. However, I didn't exactly spend the whole can on the rifle either. You can bet if the barrel is a genuine Noveske, their logo will be on there somewhere. Sorry, all I have are 14.5 pinned Noveskes to compare to. |
