Hell yes that is. It's obscene. I've been using PMI 40s in my Mini-14s for years, and in my AR15s recently. Gopt a C-prod 30 with my Oly I just scored, and will be ordering their 40s soon as well.

I have to admit those 40 rounders in a carbine kiss build are sexy looking

One of the few toys I am prohibited from owning in Ohio - any mags over 30 rounds.

(Actually, we CAN own them as "collector items" but they may never be attached to a weapon).

Indeed.

I've actually gone to 20 round mags recently, because they're more useful in a wide variety of situations than even 30s.

Yeah, it's weird how throwing an extra 10 rounds into the magazine can throw off the look of the gun.

Oh well, I'm glad you like it.

function wise, they would be badass(OH has a 30rd mag limit) but for looks, i agree.  the pmags in particular look like part of the rifle... that thing looks like something separate jimmyrigged to fit....

No youre not the only one.   I think 20rnd mags look better than 30rounders and i think that 40 rounder looks horrible.  Although, more rounds is never a bad thing.  Although i wonder how it changes the balance of the rifle.

I bought a couple for kicks.  They work, build quality is not that good on the ones I have.  If Magpul makes the 40rd or even 45rd Pmags, I will buy a couple.

40 round mags are all fine and dandy till you have to go prone and then they are a boat load of FAIL, just my 02

Nice rifle but I don't see the point in 40 rnd mags. They look like they would bump into everything and forget shooting prone.

Yucky IMO
4/13/2010 1:50:06 PM EDT

Why would I purchase a 40 round magazine, when you can get 48 lancers or even high capacity magazines from some other manufactures say the 100 round beta. At least with a beta you can go prone, just don't drop one.  Magpul wants to come out with a 40 that's fine, the market that purchases these magazines already have higher capacity options that function. Waste of design time IMHOP.  Now come out with a higher capacity magazine that functions people will purchase it, even if it is 2 rounds.

These higher capacity magazines have a use for the 3 gunners and rifle matches.

I'm sure 87 has better reasons than I do but the first that come to mind are: shooting in any position other than standing(that's 3 reasons in itself), 40s won't fit in mag pouches, 20s are less likely to get snagged on other gear while the rifle is slung.
