I'm considering getting an LMT.  I have seen several on gunbroker that look like they have an uneven finish.  Is this normal?  Is it something that can get cleaned up or is it permannant?

I relize it's a combat gun and isn't designed be preaty but...

Thanks.

I love matte AR finishes! I was very happy to see that my A4 receivers had matte finishes.

I just put a Mega/LMT carbine together for a friend of mine...the LMT upper's finish was a good as any.

Metal finishes can vary drastically on camera. For example my Recce receiver from BCM looks purple'ish whenI take pics but it is most definitely black to the eye.

LMT's tend to have a matte, or dry-looking, finish which is easy to scuff making it look white but it wipes right off. <––- I hope that makes sense.

Mine is 110% perfect.

Dad's upper had a little purple to it, but shoots fine.

I had a LMT upper where the finish on it was perfect.

However on the LMT lower I had it chipped around the FCG pins and started flaking off.  Had it refinished.

Same.  I still like my LMT lower more than my factory Noveske for what that's worth.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with that finish, the shiny areas are just excess gun oil.  If you wiped the whole thing down with CLP it will all look even.

I own two MRPs with one more on layway (love them).
I don't know about you but I would not want a shiny gun giving away my postion.

I'm a fairly pathetic photographer, and several of my pics make my ARs look purple, when they aren't.

Case in point, here's an LE6920 that looks purple:

Same carbine, same background:

Just goes to show that photography is just like shooting in that you can't buy proficiency. I've got a small fortune tied up in my Nikon D80 camera outfit, yet I still suck at photography

Fortunately the carbine pictured above runs like a top-I spend more time learning how to shoot than learning how to take pictures.

Thanks everyone!  You have releaved my fears- cause I have really wanted an LMT.  It's not that I wanted a shiny gun it's that I wanted it to look the same all over.  It seems to be the general consensous that it is just gun oil which makes it look different in parts.

a lot of guns look purple under a strong lite .or bright flash
your gun is realy dark purlple. My 1992 bushmaster is realy dark purlple.
in strong sun lite you can see the purple.

That's how my LMT lower looked. After a few trips out & some oiling it looks a lot better now.

One thing with the finishes is that if you look at them they might be dry. You would be susprised at how much they can change if oil them up and let the finish suck some of it up. Someone had an armalite ar-10 or 15 on here that complained and yea the finish looked like shit. After members here told him to oil it and let it sit a few days it cleared up nice.
