Does Colt make a lower that is NOT marked with the 'Restricted Military/Government Law Enforcement/Export Use Only" on it? I'm talking about their current offerings?
What is the current legal ramifications for possession of a lower marked this way to a person who is not military/law/export? Will a range officer have grounds to give you grief if you were shooting one and did not have the proper ID? |

Range officer, LE, whoever can't do you shit with a rifle rollmarked as such...if asked, tell them to go pound sand But, in all seriousness - you're good to go...no worries.

Thanks for the replies, but I can see where some less informed law enforcement folks might see those markings and think you have some contraband. well if some law oficial gives you too much grief, then the dept will be buying your next several colt rifles for you in the future

I have one, and I just got the upper back from having the barrel shortened and the flash hider pinned to make 16". Its a lot more fun this way and looks more like a true carbine. It also comes with the skinny hand guards (which I like) and heavy barrel. Here the 6721 is the top carbine. http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb27/INLAND44/Guns/cabines1a.jpg I stand corrected - I was thinking about the new AR that Colt came up with - the marriage between 6520 and 6721. I think it is designated as 6720? I have the 6721, which I bought solely for the roll mark (I'm a small time "collector" and currently going after AR's with the "AR-15" roll mark on the lower), but I do still like the gun, although I prefer a 6520 or a 6920. ETA: those are very nice guns you have. |

If it has crop circles, I would do whatever the aliens say. http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd7/rkba2da/rifle%20pics/AR-15/cropcircles.jpg That's a 6920, not a 6720! |
| Well, I know my luck, I spring for a 6920 or the like, and at the range, some super trooper will see it, and claim only .mil/law/.gov can possess it, and I find myself in a 'my word vs his opinion', and in that situation, I loose. I'm curious why they don't change it? |

Quoted: They will be soon. Colt premiered the "Colt Tactical" line at Shot2010. Supposedly built to the same specs, but with no LE markings.Well, I know my luck, I spring for a 6920 or the like, and at the range, some super trooper will see it, and claim only .mil/law/.gov can possess it, and I find myself in a 'my word vs his opinion', and in that situation, I loose. I'm curious why they don't change it? However, knowing how these big gun makers time tables go, just cause it premiered this year doesn't mean we will see it this year. It could this year, or it could be 2-3 years from now... ETA: heres an article about it... http://www.defensereview.com/colt-defense-launches-colt-tactical-carbinerifle-line-at-shot-show-2010-tactical-guns-accessorized-for-intensive-tactical-training/ ETA2: One more thought... I had the same misgivings as the OP before I drank the koolaide. In fact I originally went LMT specifically because I didn't want the hassle of the LE rollmark. However, I got over it, and I am glad I did. I love my Colts... |
