So I was thinking about getting one and there are soooo many to choose from (shorties, full lengths, bi pods incorporated,  Magpuls AFG'S), I have never shot with one, does it help, or is it just for tacticool look????? Opinions and info would be helpful.

I have tried just about every style you can imagine except the AFG by magpul and I still find myself grabbing the magwell instead of the grip.

It all depends on your individual prefrence. Go to your local shop and ask to handle a few rifle that have grips and see what you like.

I still have a grip on my M4gery but I never use it, I'm too lazy to take it off I suppose.

The Marines wouldn't use them if they were just for looks.

Buy a cheap one like THIS and figure out how you like to use it.

Then you can put the money into a more expensive one.

Look HERE for different ways to use the VFG/AFG/Handstop.

I like the AFG. I also stippled it and my rail covers for added traction.

Personally, I could never seem to warm up to VFG's.

Too Old School I suppose.

I have a AFG and a LaRue FUG. The fug is nice because you can adjust it as needed. The AFG Im still deciding on but for the price I can keep it around even if I dont like it.

buy a knights grip on the ee or a promag knock off for 5 bucks, and go to town trying it out.

That is exactly what I was going to say. Great minds.................

I started out using those same cheap ones just to get a feel for them. I have progressed to Fugs and TD stubbys and mainly use them as a hand stop/reference point now.
