What are the recommended round counts to replace everything subject to wear in the ar?
Is there a chart or document etc. somewhere showing that, or the expected lifespan of the various parts? |
Shooting till breakage sounds like a wonderful idea.
Here is our PMS for the M4, the key is to prevent problems from occurring. I use this to keep track of where things are and to gauge the life of various replacement parts we use. 2,500 round interval, Inspect and replace as necessary extractor spring, insert and O-ring 5,000 round interval Replace extractor spring Replace extractor insert Replace extractor Replace Crane O-ring Replace gas rings Replace action spring 10,000 round interval Replace bolt Replace lower receiver parts 15,000 round interval Replace barrel |
| think of a light bulb,, how long will it burn??? 6 weeks, 6 months, or 6 years. we just don't know. the same will apply to firearm parts [excluding some springs] so check your rifle during routine cleaning and maintenance, and watch for anything out of the ordinary during range sessions. most all the parts will last a long time, but it would not hurt anything to have some spare parts around. see the thread "what parts break in a carbine class"––-best of luck... |
