I’m new to AR's and have been surfing this site for some time.  I’ve decided on a 16" BCM middy upper.  Now my question is, should I get the standard or the new lightweight version and why?

If this is not the right section or has been covered, I will move or delete this thread.

Thanks and I trust your guy’s opinions.

I would get the lightweight.  Gov profile is so 2008.  But for real I got the bcm light with vtac handguard and there is a noticeable weight difference.  Can't wait to shoot it.

Well since you've had someone say get a 14.5" midlength and someone has said get the 16" midlength lightweight...I say get a 16" gov't

Sorry, but they are all good uppers, and you need to make the decision based on what you need the gun to do.

I just received my BCM Standard 16" Middy upper the other day.  I'm currently waiting on a 9" FDE Drop In rail that I ordered from Troy.  It is unreal how nice the BCM feels on my rifle.  I had the Century C15A2 setup with the 20" upper.  The orginial upper on my rifle was off an old Colt M16 and the lower is made by CMT.  There was a fair amount of wiggle between the upper and lower after I removed teh accuwedge.  Once I swapped over to the BCM upper, it was nice and firm.  I had considered the lightweight, but as far as weigth reduction, I got all I wanted just dropping from a 20" to a 16" barrel.  I paired it up with their complete BCG and a mod 3 Gunfighter handle.

The goverment profile feels fine to me, but until I get my rails mounted, I won't be able to give a full judgement on weight.  I don't plan on overloading my rifle.  I figure I'll get a sling mount, light mount, some XTM rail covers and either still trying to decide between handstop, AFG ro VFG.

They're all great. I did a 14.5" midlength write up here.
