Hi I'm in need of some sights for my AR piston upper.  What is a cheap, quality iron sights manufacterer?

I've seen YHM and Magpul so far that is cheaper than Danial D, Troy ind, Larue tac, etc....
What do you guys think about my narrowed 2 choices?
Am I missing any other companies??

Thanks

PS:  Where is a good place to buy these sights for a good value?

MBUS are good, but are mostly plastic.  The YHM are metal.  Both are good, its really up to you.  As to where to buy, I would check out brownells or another online distributor like them.

Check the EE for Matech BUIS.They can usually be had for around $50.

I've got the MBUS rear sight. Pretty solid, I haven't abused it yet, but I'm sure it will hold up.

Yup, the Gen II are supposed to be lower profile.

I know you want something less expensive but you really should consider Troys. Remember the old adage, "buy once, cry once"

This... if you really want to save money and go quality I would recommend the DD A1.5 fixed rear sight.  I'm not a fan of flip-ups though. I would only want flip-ups with magnified optics where co-witnessing was not possible.

If you are going to use magnified optics I vote for the Troy sight as well.  Buy Once Cry Once is sage advice when it comes to AR's.

As I typically agree with the "buy once, cry once" theory when it comes to ARs, I don't think it applies to the Magpul MBUS.  Sure they are made of polymer and cost less than half that of quality steel sights, but I have yet to hear of anybody damaging one of these.  They are made by Magpul after all.

I would have to agree with you for the most part.  Just don't use MBUS front sights on a gas block.  They are intended only for rails.  The heat from a gas block could melt them.

Defnitely check out the EE. There are usually good deals to had had. Were you wanting fixed or folding sites?

While the magpul is a great sight, you cannot use the front sight atop the gas piston if it's equipped with a rail. It would get too hot fot the plastic, I have both the front and rear magpul sights and love them, stay zeroed, but my front sight in on the handgurad and not my lowprofile gas block.

asked this question last week

settled on magpul

i got the front and rear on ebay delivered to my door for under 70 bucks

these things are solid, i mean, do you REALLY?! plan on going to war with your rifle, are you planning on slamming it around and dragging it across hard surfaces?

p.s my first set of irons we're troy....................notice how i got magpul ones this time

my friend has the mbuis, it functions ok, but maybe its just my eyes, the sight picture is wierd do to the square outside of the aperature.... and they are ugly as hell.  idk, maybe its just me, but i dont like plastic for a critical part like a buis.

if your building a budget gun, get an a1/a2 upper.  if you can afford optics, save up the extra $50 and get a troy.

When does the Magpul Gen II come out then?
