I have seen ads for barrels that say they come with a matched bolt. How is the bolt matched to the barrel?
thanks tugger |

Simple headspace check. A matched bolt will pass GO and NO-GO gages with that specific barrel assembly.
Just assembling a new barrel and bolt is virtually guaranteed to be ok but always check (or get it checked) before firing. It's your eyes and face after all. BSW |

Sounds like a great way to get more of your money...
New bolt + new barrel extension should be gtg. These are the most crtical parts in the rifle. I'm pretty sure they make sure they are built to spec before selling them. The only time swapping out bolts is a bad idea is if they are heavily used with worn lugs. The beauty of the AR system is that almost nothing affects the rifles accuracy other than the barrel itself. It's amazing how many companies are out there trying to convince people that bolts, carriers, etc. have some magical affect on accuracy. If you want to spend money on a bolt, get a good BCM or similar bolt that is properly proof tested and magnetic particle inspected. Sexy coatings and oversize bolt carriers that barely fit into your upper will do nothing for you except lighten your wallet IMHO. |

A National Match flash hider will reduce group sizes by 5% more. |
