Just this morning I walked into the gun shop (just before work. What a way to start the Friday) and low and behold. They had a Colt AR15 SP1.
Now not being to familiar with AR15 and it variants. What makes the SP1 special or not? So basically I'm asking your opinions on it and info. I've I'm going to drop roughly $2200 on it I want to know I'm not buying a lemon. Oh with regards to that is that a good price for the gun? |

The retro forum is a good source of info. At the top of the forum there is an SP1 data base. You can look for a close serial number to find details on the parts and configurations. This will help you compare the gun you are looking at and it's individual parts to make sure it hasn't been altered. Butchered SP-1's are disappointing and not any more desirable than a parts gun. (at least to me).
SP-1's are limited. The lower the serial number the higher the value - condition plays a part. Original accessories add to the value. If you like old M-16's, the SP-1 is the closest civilian version to them; specifically the Colt 604. I see your info shows you are not in the US. (Honestly, I'd have to look up ZAF to see what the abbreviation is for). $2200 is nearly twice the cost here unless it is new condition with accessories and has a very low serial number. $1000 +/- is a good starting point here for a six digit serial number. |

No I don't think he knows it is a colletor's piece (well that remains to be proven). I think it's more a matter of AR15's not being freely available here. So that makes it rare. However it is in good condition. So i though he was asking what a new one would go for now. Normally (from what i've heard some friends paid) they go for about $810 - $1350. However I though his price was a bit high.
Just wanted you guys to confirm it for me. so no sale there. I don't have that kind of cash for a new toy now anyway. Thanks for the info though. I'll go visit the gun shop some or other time and check what the serial number is. just for interest sake. |
