When using the MIAD grip on the forend how does it attach to the hand guards? I assume via a standard picatinny rail but I don't feel like taking mine off to check.

Also, does anyone know where I can get picatinny rail sections to attach to the Magpul hand guards?

The MIAD does not attach to rails.

If you buy the full kit there is an extra piece in there, front strap, that is for use as a VFG. However, you need the rail adapter made my ARMS for this to work. I don't recall the model number but its listed in the manual that came with the MIAD full kit.

The rails sections you seek are available on the Magpul web page. They are also made by Ergo / Falcon. You can order directly from Ergo, and shipping is faster then from MP directly.

Falcon also makes a nicer rail attachment than ARMS.  You can't get it without the Ergo grip already attached though.

Thanks for the info guys.

Could you shoot me a link? I can't seem to find them

YHM also makes a base to install a grip on a rail and theirs can also place the grip at the same angle as the standard grip.

Why in the world would you want to do that?!

There are a million VFG's on the market that will cost less and work better.

I was looking at it but I'm not sure how I would like it. The guy in the picture makes it look like holding it that far forward is really awkward.

Awesome, those look like they will work perfectly. Any recommendations on which size to get?

I have one of these: ar grip adapter but I don't have a MIAD to see what is looks like.   At least it would be level and not swept like the pic above.

Depends on what you intend to mount. The aluminum is a little more substantial, but is heavier. The long ones are good for an AFG, the short ones are good for just a VFG or just a light, etc.
