So...after all your's help and advice here I pretty much decided to get Spikes ST-15 M4 LE Rifle as my first AR and was ready to place an order until....I saw some pictures.

I know it's just cosmetic but this giant bright red spider logo looks pretty bad. But, I could live with that! Then I saw these godawful red and white bullet pictogramms instead of regular Fire and Safe next to the fire selection switch. Now I'm really not sure if I can spend almost a 1000 bucks on a rifle that will have these toyish symbols on it. Damn, my chinese airsoft AR-15 looks more real than that.

I guess I just don't understand guys from ST. Putting together a great rifle close to mil-spec for a great price and...then ruining it all with these childish symbols making it look like a toy. I'm seriously considering coming back to my local store and picking up a Stag instead, just because of that...

Now, does anyone know if there is a way to order the same rifle without these terrible pictogramms on it and have regular Fire and Safe written instead? If so, how much money and time it will add?

I'll also consider having these same pictogramms as long  as they are not painted if that's a cheaper and faster option.

Also, some of the lowers seem to have some kind of a connector or a switch right above the trigger in front of the fire selection switch - what the hell is that and which rifles does it come on?

Thanks again!

You can get the lowers with no paint.I think unpainted lowers were 5 or 10 bucks less in the past.

I assume they would give you a rifle with no paint if you call to order it.

ETA Their website isn't working for me right now so I can't see a pic of what you mean about the thing in front of the selector.

If you want FIRE/SAFE and not color filled just tell them when you order. That’s what I bought and color filled the parts I wanted and used white paint.

The “connector” is most likely a KNS. That costs extra.

Thanks... I didn't see it on their website, I saw it on the Spike picture thread. There are a bunch of them here, but not all of them are like that http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=2&f=282&t=159418&page=16

Pardon my ignorance...what's the KNS?

So I can get one with just Fire and Safe written on without an additional cost as an option?

Maybe you are seeing KNS trigger pins? You might call them to see if they can install a ST-15 lower with fire/safe and no color fill. They are running a special on them but as stated the website is kinda funky at the moment. Check around the website (once it's back up and running) as they bend over backwards to help you out. Their CS is top notch.

The colorfill you have seen is an option and dosn't come standard on any of their rilfes.

You may want to have them check and make sure that the grip screw hole is tapped all the way through on the lower before they ship it.

I don't think the pictograms are childish.  You just need to buy the auto sear so that your gun will be able to go to the magic third position.  That is one of the reasons I like the Spike's lowers, it works great with my new RDIAS.  FWIW, HK's also have those red and white pictograms
Seriously though, give Spike's a call they will hook you up.

If you get on the phone and call them, they'll set up a rifle pretty much however you want it.  I'm not crazy about the color-fill pictograms either. I'm sure they can put together a rifle with out the color fill, although it may not be on the website.  If you give them a call I'm sure they'll get you set up with what ever you want.

Hey op, are you serios?  There are dozens of AR brands.  If you don't like one get a different one, no need to bash one companies logo.  This only makes you look childish.

KNS pins are to help secure your trigger pins to prevent them from walking out of the lower..

I ordered their new billet upper and lower for my first build. I was actually hoping I could get the spider logo instead of the biohazard logo but that might be too much of a stretch. It's all personal preference. I don't care for the color fill but I think the spider is cool.

Hey, I only have one airsoft gun, but I also have a bunch of real ones. AK-47, several handguns, couple of rifles, 12 gauge. I'm not new to guns, I'm just new to ARs

Thanks everyone, now that I know that I can order either lower, I'm very happy. Spikes customer service is the best I've ever seen. I gonna be placing my order tonight!

KNS pins are to help secure your trigger pins to prevent them from walking out of the lower..

KNS pins do more than prevent walking pins.  they hold the trigger pin stationary so that the trigger rotates around the pin and not the trigger pin rotating in the receiver.  anecdotal evidence says that it will "improve" the feel of the trigger pull.  if you shoot A LOT it will reduce wear on the trigger pin holes in the lower (very important if you have a registered NFA lower).  they are totally unnecessary for a weekend plinking rifle unless you like the way they look.  if you are lucky enough to have an RDIAS they would be a good investment.

as far as the "toyish" bullet pictograms replacing safe/fire, that is how NATO weapons are marked.  not everyone can read english so a picture of a bullet with an "X" through it becomes more self explanatory.

Spke's CS is GTG!  bought a lower for my first build from them for two reasons, CS and the spider logo.

good luck with your build.

Well I just completed a KISS build on a Spikes lower, pictograms with no color fill and it looks far from childish or toyish and DEFINATELY not like airsoft. Pictogram selector markings are used on some of the most technologically advanced and tried and true combat weapons on the face of the earth. They serve a visual purpose. The non-marked lowers are on sale last time I checked. Spikes makes good stuff IMHO!!!!!
