| Just looking for some advice. Which rifle would be a better buy? I have the chance to get a Colt 6920 brand new for about $1000. I would make a few small modifications (gunfighter charging handle, MOE handguards, etc). Or should I just buy a BCM carbine, and just build it how I want it to begin with? I think in the end, the BCM will still be a little cheaper. Whichever I get, it will be riding in the trunk of a patrol car for the next 20 years. Your insight will be appreciated. |
| IMO either is a great choice. Given what you've said about the charging handle and what not, I see no reason not to go Bravo all the way and just get exactly what you want. If you mentally have more confidence in one piece of gear over the other go that way, because confidence in your kit is important. However if they are both equal to you Bravo it. |

If this is going to be your permanent patrol rifle:
Buy the Colt (great deal). Sell the upper, and use the money for a BCM complete 11.5" upper and the tax stamp / engraving on your Colt lower - should be a pretty close deal pricewise. An SBR is much more practical for police work. It's lighter, better for building searches and felony stops, and easier to get out of the car if you ever decide to carry it up front. Then make sure you get a sling and a light for it. Either way, you're buying a quality rifle that will last the rest of your career. Be safe and good luck with it! |

Either / Or.
I like more handguard and the gas system on the mids. If it was me, I'd get a Middy BCM. Here some info on Mids for LEO's http://www.03designgroup.com/technotes/midlengths-for-leo |

Why anyone would buy a 16" carbine length gas system barrel is beyond me.
If its 16, it should be a middy. Anyone who has shot one will confirm exactly that. No sacrifice in quality going one way or the other, so the superior operating system FTW. If it was a Colt middy versus a BCM carbine, I'd say go with the Colt. |
