Last night on Shooting USA or Sighting in they showed a 5.7X28 upper that even used the standard PS90 mags and ejected the brass thru the magazine well. It came with buffer replacements.

Has anyone put hands on one of these? If so is it worth it for around 700bucks? I would love to hear feedback on these uppers. I cannot remember who made the upper, so if you know please post here so I can get more info.

On another note they also showed a 50BMG upper, wonder how much that monster weighs?

If you are looking for a source, I think I've seen them in the Cheaper than Dirt catalog.

As cool as it is there are no good ways to mount an optic it seems.
Have you priced the cost of 5.7?
At about 23.00 for 50 that is a hair higher than I can buy most .223/5.56 rounds.

You might  be better off looking into a 5.45 upper.

You should ask in the AR Variants forum.  I know these uppers have been discussed there.

Right now Aim Surplus has complete rifles in stock. There was a member that bought one and was very pleased with it. It seems like a cool idea, but you save no money in ammo and the 5.56 is a better round ballistically. On the pro side you get increased magazine capacity and you can easily collect your brass for reloading. If you have an FN 5.7 pistol, it would make a nice companion rifle.

Cool, thanks for the link!

Yeah, the 5.7 pistol and 5.7 rifle combo is what attracts me. When I priced the PS90 it typically right at 2000bucks, so this interested me at less than half that cost. The 5.7 pistol is still damn expensive though typically over 1k.

I'll be sticking with my 6940 and 9mm for now. Just always like to hear input from everyone.

Off to go search the AR Variants forum.

Thanks again!

An Aimpoint T1 with Troy backup irons would'nt be a bad setup.

Aimpoint T1 and Eotech XPS-2 is perfect. Theres a few optics u can mount just fine. I've seen some with a ACOG on there.

I have one of these uppers and love it alot. I've had no issues with mine at all and goes welll with my PS90 :D

Here's a Pic of a Eotech XPS2 that the manufacture of the upper uses, Aparently there's even space for a magnifier...

5.7 is more expensive and more rare than .223/5.56 along with having inferior ballistics in civilian ammo. The only upside to the 5.7 is mag capacity and weight, the latter being marginal.

Up here in AK they're not much more thne the 5.56... probably right at the same... im going to be really honest lol.

American eagle black box is $10 for 20..

FN SS197SR round is $25 for a box of 50.

I know everyone is an "expert' on ARF, but you guys are wrong with the whole 5.7 cost more than 5.56.  Factory SS197 is loaded with 40gr Vmax bullets...you can get a case of 1,000 for roughly $375...try getting 5.56 loaded with the same bullets for the same price.  If you want to compare apples to apples that is what you would need to do.

I have the FsN, PS90 and just got the AR57 upper.  If you don't like the 5.7 no big deal...just don't make up shit as you go along.

Not sure where you are seeing PS90s for $2,000.  FN has a $200 rebate til the end of this month on the PS90.  You should be able to find them for $1,400 after the rebate.

The point is that you do not have the option to get 5.7 that is equivalent to the .223/5.56 that most of us shoot. You don't have the options in projectiles that you do with 5.56; I can get 5.56 wolf for $.24/rd, brass cased 55gr $.33/rd or MK262 $1+/rd. Just because all that is available is premium ammo that doesn't mean you can say the ammo in general is cheaper.

For the shooting that most do, a vmax bullet is unnecessary. Can you get 5.7 w/ fmj bullets for any less?
