I read about all i can on here in an attempt to learn, but one thing puzzles me. Some ar's are referred to as Carbines, some as Rifles. I am pretty sure this is dependant on the length of the gas system, or distance of the gas port in bore to chamber... ? Are there specific measurements that distinguish the two classifications? I was browsin around for pics and saw the 'Middy pic thread' and damned if i dont see wtf makes those ar's so 'middy' lol

Midlength = gas port is between carbine and rifle length.

gas system length.  carbine 6", mid-length 9", rifle length 12".  Rough amounts from chamber to gas port.
