Just finished tricking out my Bushmaster M4/A3 with: Wilson Combat TTU, YHM Muzzlebrake, YHM Freefloat Diamond Specter forearm, YHM black gas tubes, YHM low profile slotted  gasblock,  Magpul XTM Rail Covers, Magpul UBR buttstock, Surefire x300 weapon light, Black Ergo Grip, Magpul trigger guard, Mako foregrip, 6 30 rd Magpul PMAG w/ranger plates, La Rue Tactical SPR/M4 Scopemount for Leupold Mark 4 1.5-5x20mm w/illum recticle and to top it off Magpul MS2 Sling with La Rue Tactical Q.D. Swivels. So I have invested quite a bit of money into my baby. Absolutely love my setup and only used the best of what 'I' thought was out there (will Post some picture of her later). I am using my rifle for several varmint hunts and some local target comps. Most of my shot are from a stationary position on hunts until I have to get into the Hi-Rack. I then have some shots that are 300-400 yrd and you have the size of a half-dollar to hit and complete focus is needed. The YHM muzzlebrake is great and would highly recommend but I really want something to help with some recoil reduction for 2nd shot follow-ups. Does anyone know a RELIABLE means recoil reduction? Ive heard good things about the Ar-Restor and Ive heard some bad things. Does anyone know of any other recoil reduction methods or setups that would help me out? All information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Get the ST-T2 buffer and a Brake from PWS.

try a FA (M16) carrier and a heavy buffer, that should help a bit, check for cycling and operation before you hunt with it....<><....:)

One of the Hydraulic buffers do wonders. I have this one http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=380841

Try the ST-T2 buffer from Spikes, its only $29.00 and it does a lot to smooth out the action in my opinion…
Link to ST-T2

Also, you might look at a different muzzle device, like the J P Recoil Eliminator, that better fits your style of shooting.

I don’t know much about the JP muzzle device, so do your homework, but I would say for bench shooting you definitely want a good muzzle brake.

If you decide to go with one of the exotic buffers, I recommend the MGI RRB.

Do this, you'll be amazed at how much either one individually makes a difference, and the combo... WOW. Also, unlike a lot of other brakes out there, it's not ridiculously loud or flashy.

I have this setup along with an FA carrier and middy gas system. It's the softest shooting AR I've ever fired.

That is why I like the MGI RRB.  Unlike hydraulic buffers, if it fails you still have a regular buffer, and a heavy 7.1oz one at that.

From a cost standpoint, the best option is an ST-T2.

Even if you already have a good muzzle device, the weapon will be more in harmony with a buffer that is the proper weight for the system.

They cause short stroking way to often IMO.

This...... I currently run a mid length with a FSC556 from Primary Weapon Systems and the Spikes Buffer. My barrel doesnt move... A JP trigger would help as well

Hey thanks for the info I am most definately getting the Spike Buffer...I have the Wilson Combat Tactical Trigger Unit and it was definately worth the money...best drop-in trigger I have ever had...hows the JP trigger? single or two-stage?

Hey thanks for the info I had pretty much determined through countless readings of reviews a hydraulic buffer was not going to happen...have you compared the spike buffer and the MGI first hand? is the MGI that much better?

JP IMHO makes the best trigger.. I run a 3.5 tactical trigger, same as my duty 3.5 in my G34. keeping it consistent throughout my platforms. They will installed them for you in whatever poundage you wish for around 220, with KNS anti rotate pins, and fit to your receiver.

While many others have reported reduced felt recoil as a result of using the ST-T2 buffer I would have to
say that I really couldn't tell the difference after purchasing and using one.  That doesn't mean you won'
be able to.  I could be "felt recoil" challlenged.

Anyway, also keep in mind the PWS muzzle device will be quite a bit louder than the standard A2 brake.

No.  The inside dimensions are the same.  Remember, the same BCG slides back into either extension.

this and the psw556 is what im gonna end up doing after i get my barrel cut down to 14.5"... I think thats pretty much the best you can do.  unless you get a break like a titan or mucilec or whatever its called (the one that looks like it belongs on a tank)

i put a st-t2 and a blue extra power springco  springin a carbine and it sure softened up the recoil for me. i ordered some more of the st-t2s, i beleive ole spike's has a winner there.[ my ejection pattern is 4-5: o'clock with this set-up,,runs great]

Sorry to hijack but, just so that I understand completely, the spikes will function correctly with a comercial buffer tube?

Here are couple of brakes that work nicely to reduce both recoil and muzzle climb.

The Smith Enterprises works well at around $60

This brake is by Ron Schuler and is available in either carbon steel or stainless at $40 shipped.

If you think your gun, with all the doodads you have listed, recoils to much, I'd say you need to invest in ammo and practice. Maybe a better trigger?

To me the 5.56 just doesn't kick very much. Can you see the vapor trail of your first shot or do you loose it?

yes.  The differences between the milspec and com reciever extenstions do not affect what goes on the inside.

why do people think recoil is about the feel?  on my carbine, the front site post jumps all the way off target at 50 yds... it doesnt move me, it just jumps, my brother had a dissy (rifle gas/17/5" barrel, heavy barrel) that would just move about 2 inches on a 50yd target.  im gonne be getting the spikes buffer and psw so i can get much faster followups.  vapor trail would depend on the distance.

This. My Dpms jumps all over the place its almost impossable to do follow up shots.

Recoil? 5.56??

May I suggest:
Find a local range, adopt the prone position. Pick up 303 Lee Enfield, fire a "Mad Minute" contest...(gun with 5 in the magazine, feeding from 5-rd clips)
Repeat 5 or 6 times an hour - more if you wish (getting past 25 rounds a minute is your target, plus hitting the target at 200m)
THEN
Do the same drill with an AR

You might notice that the AR15 has very little recoil...practice until you agree...even if you dont agree, money spent on ammo/practice is money seldom wasted.

Oh, and before I forget: FUCK OBAMA
