Is there anyway to install a free flaoting hand rail onto a upper with a pinned muzzle brake??  the front site base cant be taken off ( with out cutting) nor a new gas block installed over that damn muzzle brake.... can one shave down the front sight base, move it, remove the gas tube, take off the delta ring barrel nut ect... and just installl your new rail?? is there a way to cut your pinned break off with out damaging your threads or barrel??? can i even expose those threads as i am a NEW YORKER???? or shall i just replace the whole damn upper?? and biuld me a stock AR-15 with all my left over parts..... whats the most cost effective way to go about this??

Just shave your front sight and get a two piece rail system from MI or Troy. They use the standard barrel nut so if you dont want to remove your barrel from the reciever, all you have to do is cut off the delta ring. But I found it very easy to remove the whole barrel (I was replacing my fixed carry handle with a flat top, So i had to do this any way but it was very simple) The MI rails clamp onto the standard barrel nut.

With the 2 piece rails, (that are freee float) you would only need to shave down your front sight if you want the rails to cover the FSB and use flip ups instead. If you want to use the standard FSB all you have to do is remove gas tube, cut off delta ring and leave barrel nut there, and clamp on the rails.

Look in the building ar's section on this forum, they have walk throughs that show you how to assemble/ disasseble the whole rifle. Also Brownells.com in their video section has excellent videos that would help you.

This sums it up.

I have cut off the muzzle brakes to replace them without any problems but a new one will need to be welded on. I Have an MI rail on one upper, real easy to install just cut the delta ring of with a dremel. Or you can can use a DD Omega or the VLTOR CASV if you are bucks up.

omega would work... however i want to go from a carbine length to atleast a mid if not a full length.. and since my barrel has the holes drilled in for the gas block at the carbine length..... plus im sick of seeing my fsb through my eotech :)

Then you can cut down the sight base without removing it. Not a big deal.

Oh and Larue and YHM make risers for the EOtech so you will see less of the front sight but still be able to use your iron sight if needed.

Thinkin about it :) sorta pisses me off to think i  would pay fines or have my rifle taken away and be put in time out just for haveing some threads on my barrel or some hi cap mags :) but with a little one on the way and both sets of grandparents living here ( and offering free baby sitting) sorta hard to uproot

as others have said, dremeling the FH an option if you have to remove it for a one piece rail/replacing the gas block

after going through the pin and weld procedure myself, the threads should be fine...and i could probably re-use the FH if i wanted to be careful grinding and then drilling it out on a press

at first i didn't want to deal with having a welded FH- but its just a little tack weld covering the pin that can be removed somewhat easily (with tools of course)

as far as going with a middy or rifle length rail system- i know i've seen them in one piece for a carbine gas system, with a cut out for the FSB. i don't know about two-piece rails in that configuration...

Talk to the guys at ADCO. They can help.
I've got a 14.5" with perm Vortex and a  10" DD lite rail lo profile gas block under rail.
I had to cut off FSB delta ring assembly and handguard cap. I sent them my barrel with
DD barrel nut FH and lo pro GB and they did the rest.
They will have to replace your muzzle brake as it gets
beat up when they take it off.

Yeah.  Finding a new job, new home, leaving family, trying to sell your house in a down market, etc, etc.  Those are all much easier than using a 2 piece free float rail

The cap will come off when you remove the FSB.  The bayonet lug and front sling loop ears get cut off and ground down.  I actually turned one of my FSBs into a low pro with the upper assmbly in tact.  It would be easier to take it off though.

Hmm... I thought the OP wanted a way to shave the FSB without having to remove his pinnd FH. My mistake

You're right.

Like I said, I did it without taking the fsb off.  The cap is a bit of a pain.  You have to segment it with a dremel cutting wheel and peel off the pieces with vice grips.

Probably just better off selling the upper you have and putting that money towards a new one in the configuration you want rather than try to modify what you have.

im with ya on getting a new upper.. this has been on my mind for a few months now and thanks to uncle sam over taxing me all year and having to give me my money back :) its now a possabilty. as far as selling my old one?? i think ill just keep it as i have everything else but a stripped lower.. why not have 2?? im just trying to see if there aint a way to sneak around spending 900 bucks on the upper i want and putting some money into ammo cuzz after this case, and the next case, and the case after that, there is only one left :)
