Are HK magazines worth the extra money? |
|
About two years ago I bought a HK 416 Upper Receiver Kit and eight HK “High Reliability” magazines. I have used these magazines on a regular basis since then; their reliability and quality of manufacture is excellent!
However given the extra cost and weight of these HK magazines, I cannot recommend them. I will not purchase any more HK magazines! I have and will continue to purchase the excellent PMags (Magpul)! Given my experience with the HK magazines, the PMags are just as reliable, much better cost, and lighter weight! |
| While nice, I would say no. You can probably buy 3 PMAGs for the same price as 1 HK, and the combined weight would be about the same. The PMAG is pretty amazing, and doesn't have flaws consistent with the HK design. Mag springs were wearing out early in the HK mags, and no replacement springs were available (unless this has changed). So basically a whole new mag when your spring wears out. I'd stick with either PMAGs, Lancers, or GIs with a replacement follower. |
| Last year I picked up 7 used H&K mags (ex marine issue). They are top notch metal mags, a little heavy but solid. At $15 each they were a steal and well worth it. Unless you can get them for $20 or less, you're better off buying Pmags. I have 8 Pmags and really like them. GI mags usually need a Magpul upgrade. |
| Not worth the cost unless you are going to run Full Auto..which is where they really shine. I have 5 of them (HK mags) and I would stick to PMAGS if you are going to shoot Semi Auto only. I have a RR M16 that has a tight(er) magwell and the PMAGS don't fit as well and don't drop free, even after sanding them, I have some EMags as well with the same issue. I have several black rifles and the EMags and PMAGS work just as good as their HK counterparts in them. Save yourself some bucks and go with Magpul! |
