This is a little bit of a noobie question but I have to confirm. I have a Bushmaster 20" post ban.
My current Bushmaster has a Larue 12" handguard, Leupold glass, a nice Geiselle trigger, Larue mount and a Magpul PRS stock. I am thinking of upgrading my upper to give this equipment a new higher quality home. My questions are: Are Bushmaster lowers top or near top quality lowers? (I would like to have the convenience and just get the upper shipped to my home.) Will any upper I order fit nice and snug into my Bushmaster lower? I'm thinking of ordering a BCM upper and sending it out to have a FSC556 perm attached to it since I live in New York. As a little side note, I am buying the upper with the money that was going to be used for an ACR. Thanks a lot guys! |
| Tthe B/M lower should be as good as anybody's, i'm basing this on the fact that i shot a DCM for a few seasons, and have an old 20"A2 that has 1,ooos of trouble-free rds down range. as far as mating is concerned,, you never know. i see all the time where guys are saying their BCM upper is loose on their BCM lower. but,, i have 3 complete BCM rifles, with excellent fit. the uppers were obtained from BCM directly, the lowers from 2 different places,, good fit. if you just want to go to another upper, i see no reason not to., just get a dedicated bcg for each upper, as the bolt will "wear in" to the particular barrel––[at least a new bolt for each barrel] |

Lowers are not a critical part as long as it's in spec. There is no reason to swap your lower for another. Upper/lower fit is a crapshoot, and it doesn't affect accuracy or reliability. The barrel is the most critical part with regard to accuracy. If you want to upgrade parts, I'd start with the barrel and BCG. |
