Should the bolt assem be very tight on a new upper and loosen up as it breaks in or should it move easly from the start?

It should slide easily from the beginning. Is this a new build? Is the gas tube / barrel nut aligned right?

did you apply a lube or even clean the upper?  did you remove a slight film off the underside of the top of the upper...that film is a lube.    Is your BCG home built?

New build, TNW Upper W/ Young Mfg Chrome M16 Bolt, Gunslinger charging handle. Have not installed the barrel. Bolt shows rubbing marks about 1/2 inch back of gas key on dust cover side. Charging handle has rub marks also. Lube the hell out of it and has loosened up somewhat. Will take apart and clean. 1st build and wanted to know if this was common?

Check the bc gas key. made sure it's tight, staked, and (very important) straight. By straight, I man oriented true to the bc axis.
