just bought a wilson 20inch competition heavy barrel,
i want to have it turned down a bit by adco to make it a little lighter (this thing is heavy) NO automatic fire but it will be used with a suppresser i mainly bought this barrel for accuracy, im matching it with a larue upper/larue bolt what should i have it turned down to? i dont see any damage with the crown, is there a need to have it re-crowned by adco? thanks! |

Just Remember that heavy = stiff, stiff means accurate. The additional mass also diminishes the effects of heat. Turning down a barrel that you bought for accuracy means lowering one of the very qualities you bought it for. You might consider fluting, a compromise that allows you to lose SOME weight and increase cooling surface with minimal effect on stiffness.
Just my opinion, I could be wrong |

Barrel $ + shipping X 3 + re-contour + crown = what? Why didn't you just buy a lighter weight barrel? 458 |

I would vote for fluting, but you should probably be talking to ADCO. Maybe someone will jump in with a link or Big Bore will show up.....BTW I have a WOA National Match barrel that was fluted by ADCO, really nice work, can't say how much lighter it is though as I bought it this way. Looks cool though! |
